If the Republicans claim that having a public option will drive the insurance companies out of business…?

Then how come libraries haven’t driven bookstores out of business?

How come public transportation hasn’t driven cars out of business?

Plus, public colleges haven’t driven private ones out of business. But repubs were never big on consistency.

Read Section 102 of HR-3200 beginning on page 16. Private bookstores aren’t prohibited from accepting new customers, or changing the books they sell, or the prices they charge. If that were the case, as it will be with Obamacare, I suspect that they would go out of business, too.

LOL for the same reason that libraries haven’t driven bookstores out of business or public transportation hasn’t driven cars out of business…they don’t have everything you need!!!!!!!! LOL
Most libraries don’t have the books I read so I go and by them at Barnes and nobles
public transportation can not get me from Austin to DFW and than back so I have a car!!!!
This is the exact argument the Republicans are trying to make…Your Government run health care will have many of the same short falls as the two Government run plans you mentioned…Thank You for making it so simple…I never looked at it that way…Now I can explain our Position so much easier to people…

Your comparing apples to oranges! If you can read do some reasearch into what the public option did to private insurance companies and doctors in England.

Or for that matter the USPS. Watch those who protect the interest of lobbyist and special interest groups over the people’s wishes.

    It’s a good analogy.

For instance when I drive a car off the lot or take a book home from the bookstore, it is now my possession, to keep and use as long as I like.

The book from the library and the city bus, they are not mine. I have to return the book, which was pretty dog-eared anyways, and the bus doesn’t come or go when I need it.

Enjoy your government provided healthcare. You will soon find you no longer own your health either.

Because libraries don’t let you keep books, and public transportation doesn’t take you where you want to go very easily.

If you’d actually read HR3200 you’d know. First, as one answerer stated above, according to Section 102, page sixteen, private insurers will be prohibited from enrolling new people in their plans if those plans take affect after the first day of the first year that HR3200’s care takes effect, that likely being January of 2013.

Secondly, New Mexico Congressman Jeff Bingaman(D) has stated (after having read the bill that HR3200 is designed to drive private insurers out of businesses. Not so with libraries or public transport.

In addition, HR3200 is designed so that Uncle Sam will be allowed to audit self-insuring employers, and will make sure there are NO incentives on the books for small or mid-sized businesses to self-insure.

    Solar,
The USPS is actually the perfect example of how the government CANNOT compete with the private sector on fair terms. Private companies like the UPS, FedEx, etc. are becoming more and more popular due to their reliability and their speed… something with which the USPS cannot keep up.

1- Because Library’s only carry so many copies of books, now if they bought enough copy’s of a book so every one could read at the same time how long would the book stores be open?
2- If no one wanted to drive for their own pleasure, and the government made it real cheep to ride a bus or take a train, or if the government owned all the airplanes, and almost gave away tickets, how long would the car company’s be in business. And of course the government would be so fare in debt our government would be claimed by China who owns all of our debt.

I get that from listening to democrats and proponents of the public option. That information comes from them and not the republicans.

Here they are in their own words. There are many instances of them saying that is their goal.

the fact that you are trying to compare bookstores and transportation to healthcare shows you need to study up a little..

Whole different thing.. shame on you for not knowing that.

Point is, it will not drive them out of business altogether, but it will drive their prices down.. That’s a good thing.

The bad thing is, that this quickie answer that obama is trying to come up with is not the only answer. It needs to be studied more. People don’t want to get on board a new bill that is not even completely written.. and that the government who we all know are a bunch of fancy crooks, could easily change and shaft us all.

We simply want to know what this new " government option" will cover… adn just when it will stop being voluntary and become law.. and it will.. you know it will.

    Let me see if I got this straight;

If you’re poor, you qualify for Medicaid

If you’re rich, you can afford good health insurance.

If you work for a big company, (that’s probably subsidized by the government in some way) you can have an affordable group plan.

But if you run a small business and make less than $100,000 a year YOU SHOULD HAVE GIVEN UP AND JOINED A BIG CORPORATION YEARS AGO! There’s nothing for you. You have to die. You’re f%^&ed

Libraries don’t sell books, they lend them out.
They need tax dollars to stay in business.
Libraries are not doing that well since books ae available or more reasonable price in the private world.

Public Transportation only services limited areas.
Public transportation needs government subsidies to exist.

How come, immature, uneducated, naive liberals make illogical statements

You must have a public school education. The reason the insurance companies will be driven out of business is because Obama plans to take away the company tax deduction for company’s that pay for their employees insurance, Government will mandate what insurance companies have to cover and what their rates can be. Most people can figure out that 95% of companies that now provide health insurance for their employees will off load it to the government. The remaining 5% will be forced to drop their insurance as the government forces insurance companies out of business. No company can compete with the government and survive.

It comes down to choice… and a public option, to be successful, would end up driving the prices way to low, which may seem okay, but it would cause privates to close, removing competition at which point the gov would be able to do as they please, and would be forced to raise taxes to pay for the program… simply, it puts the gov in control, Unconstitutionally.

Libraries allow one to borrow, which is fine for some, but, many want to own the product…
Same goes with public transportation… as well as ownership, many find public transport unreliable, inconvenient, and inefficient for their needs.

For people who insist on making the false comparison between the US and UK health care systems, please learn the difference between the proposed universal health care in the US and the single-payer system in the UK. Also, private health insurance companies have existed in the UK for over 60 years. Nowadays, there are dozens, some of which are American-owned.

Btw, Sec.102 prohibits new enrollees, only if the insurance plan doesn’t meet the new minimum requirements outlined in the bill. Otherwise, the insurance company would be able to add new enrollees indefinitely without offering proper coverage.
