If the Liberals of today believe that the Banks, manufacturing , insurance companies?

July 16, 2010 - 7:10 pm 4 Comments

automobile manufacturer and all businesses are evil money grabber and should be either controlled by the government or closed ot taken over by the government and all salaries be set by the government and the stock holders income be controlled and all the while complaining about the rich and they should be taxed to the maximum. Where will the rich get their money to redistribute.

You said if the liberals…well that is not what they believe so your question is irrelevant.

If conservatives today believed that government should be eliminated; all labor laws, environmental regulations, financial regulations and taxes be eliminated and unions outlawed, how would the country protect us from environmental disasters like the Hooker Chemical Company’s Love Canal, provide financial support to the military or protect workers against unsafe working conditions. Oh yea, if conservatives today want to kill puppies too…

See I can play the "if" game too.

Can our mortgage company require us to go with their insurance company?

July 16, 2010 - 7:10 pm 10 Comments

We are in the process of trying to refinance with a new mortgage company. We currently have homeowner’s insurance through Farm Bureau Insurance, as well as boat, automobile, and life insurance. The mortgage company we are refinancing with is saying that we must have and escrow account and pay their OWN homeowner’s insurance, instead of Farm Bureau. I don’t want to do this because we get a multi-line discount at Farm Bureau, and I like them. Can they do this?

Absolutely not. Matter of fact, by law, they are required to have you sign an "ainti-coersion" disclosure. It states that they have NOT instructed you to, or required you to use a specific insurance company, to guarantee the closing of your loan. BIG no-no. The law was put in cto protect consumers from companies offering each other kick backs. "send me business, and I’ll send you business". It is fraud. You are encouraged as a consumer to shop for the best deal. That applies to the insurance company, mortgage company, title company, etc. Kick backs and "steering" is seriously frowned upon by the Department of Banking and Regulations. They are risking their license.

Is there a reason why automobile insurance rates are skyrocketing in New York?

July 16, 2010 - 7:10 pm 3 Comments

I just got a 6-month renewal rate for my Progressive auto insurance policy in New York State (specifically Western New York), and it has jumped 15%. I have had no accidents, claims, address changes, or anything else that would cause a recalculation in years, and my policy lists me as having a "clean" driving record.

I heard that insurance companies were pushing for a 7% rate increase last summer, which has to be approved by the state, and that the state was pushing back saying rates should be going down instead (less driving, price of gas, etc). Never heard the final word on that though.

Curious if anyone in the insurance industry in NY might know if this is across the board, or if my company is just screwing me.

UPDATE: My original policy was $343, the renewal was for $400. I followed the "shop around" advice by going to an independent agent. He found me a policy for $241. When I asked him who the company was, he said "Progressive." So I got a good rate, just had to play a stupid game to get it.

Is you company screwing you? It takes about 20 minutes to get quotes from the main insurers from the comparison sites.

If the dammage to my automobile is not my fault, why won’t my insurance company go after whom is liable?

July 16, 2010 - 7:10 pm 3 Comments

While the rear left brake axle was being repaired, the front left door hinge became loose. The repair guy forced the door open and left a large dent in my front left quarter pannel. I can now hardly open the door. My insurance company is saying I have to pay all deductables etc, and the repair work, then try to go after the company to get reimbursed. Why can’t the insurance adjuster take the case up with the persons responsible for the dammage? I am willing to pay for the door to be fixed, but not the front left quarter pannel.

They will if they pay out. If you have full coverage and the other guy has no insurance, you in turn go to your carrier for restitution. They then go after the other guy to recover their loss and your deductible.

II was the middle car of a 3 car wreck last November, and that is how it worked. I live in TN the wreck occurred in GA, so GA law also was a consideration in the settlement.

You also must consider that if the damage exceeded a certain dollar threshold, It will be reported to the motor vehicle department and on your title as having been in an accident. That will devalue your car as a resale or trade-in, so you also need compensation for the loss in value. I was paid $950.00 as loss in value on top of the repair bill for my 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited CRD w/3,600 miles on it.

I went back to the selling dealer for his opinion; he devalued the Jeep $5,000.00, it was only 5 weeks old. State Farm hid behind a ruling on another GA case and would only pay $950.00 per a formula they were able to get thru the court in GA. Again since the accident occurred in GA, GA laws governed. But that does not make it morally right for State Farm to inadequately compensate for their insured’s harm to my property.

The cost to me to fight it would exceed $5,000.00 and State Farm knew it. It is true, there is no honor among thieves.

My insurance company, SafeCo instructed me to take the car to a shop, if State Farm failed to take care of me right away they’d open a claim. I’d have to cover the deductible but they’d recover it for me. In the end State Farm came across as my per diem for the loss of a 4X4 Jeep use (I am a real estate broker/developer) was not going to be pretty for them, it is how I make my living and required the 4X4 to go over and thru job sites (mobile office).

Engine swap and automobile Insurance question?

July 16, 2010 - 7:05 pm 5 Comments

Is it okay for 1999 Honda civic to have a 2007 honda civic i-vtec engine? and Is there any sort of fee that I need to pay to government? I am going to buy the engine from my friend who had an automobile accident. It was not his fault and I guess the other driver’s insurance company will cover his car. I mean they will send him check for his car. They think that more than 85% of his car has been damaged. The engine on his car is fine I believe. Do you think insurance company will let my friend to sell his engine? Even though they are going to send check for his car?

You don’t have to pay the government anything for the engine but your friend would have to buy his car back from the insurance company in order to part it out.

What kind of insurance do you have and do you ‘like’ it/is it good?

July 16, 2010 - 7:05 pm 4 Comments

I want to switch insurance companies, but I don’t know how to decide what to switch to. Insurance is such a confusing thing to start with that I need to find a company that is helpful as well as affordable.
I’m looking for a company to cover automobile and homeowner’s insurance, and if possible life insurance too.
Thanks for the help.

Life companies are totally different from property/casualty (auto and homeowners) companies.

One of my favorite property/casualty companies is Erie Insurance – but they don’t write in many states, so that will do you NO GOOD if they don’t write in your state.

There really aren’t any good shortcuts. You’ll have to call around and shop around. You can take a LITTLE shortcut by calling a locall, independent agent that represents 5-6 companies, but you’ll have to compare and contrast coverages and premiums. The agent can help you out on that, too.

In america, why do we have insurance system ? for example for Healthcare and Automobile.?

July 16, 2010 - 7:05 pm 4 Comments

For some reason, I dont see any logic in USA’s insurance system. For example customer A has automobile insurance, first of all insurance company bargain the hell out of the customer and doesnt cover this doesnt cover that..what not..on top of it – if the customer meets with an accident, if he claims insurance, his insurance jacks up bloody hell man..if not..he ends up paying insurance every month and pay of his accident..then why do we need insurance ??? Bloody hell..

If anyone thinks of any advantages of Automobile or healthcare industry’s insurance, Please throw some limelight !!

Payal,
Do you white water raft without a life jacket?
Insurance is the "just in case" business of financially protecting the clients. If the Bad one never happens then your right insurance is a waste of my energy (I’m a health and life agent) and your money. Please refer to the psychics to see if a Big Bad One is in your future.

PS 20 some years ago (before COBRA) I went uninsured due to a job change. Three days before my old job and their insurance ended and 33 days before the new insurance would kick in I had Major surgery for a condition that had actually been brewing for years. Had my condition waited for a week or two before becoming acute I would have had to foot the entire hospital bill! Still be paying for that today!

Do Automobile companies cover only the drivers listed on the policy?

July 16, 2010 - 7:05 pm 6 Comments

Twice I allowed my father to drive my car. If something would have happened would he have been covered? I have full coverage on one car and liability only on the other car. I am insured by Allstate.

I know that this is a question for the insurance man, but I am interested in other peoples experience, also.

All household members have to be listed since it is assumed they will likely be driving the vehicle at some point. Your friends and other people you let borrow your vehicle, are covered as long as they are not a regular user. Usually, the only time a person borrowing your vehicle is not covered is if they are specifically excluded.

Think about it , as consumers how long are we going to let insurance companies(All) screw us anyway they want?

July 16, 2010 - 7:00 pm 4 Comments

Even though I pay almost 600.00 a month in the state of Georgia for automobile insurance ( full coverage), I found out if I was in an accident and even though it was not my fault ,a insurance company can charge me with 25% of the accident even though the other driver was ticked for failure to yield, And they are within the law? In this case they are stealing 12,000.00 in damages by just saying Our adjuster see’s it this way contrary to police and eye witnesses statements and oh yea we total led your car.How many of you can relate to begging these insurance companies to charge you a outrageous premium so they can refuse to pay when needed. As consumers we let it go, maybe to proud to admit when ripped off, or maybe boy we’re lucky they didn’t cancel? Another example In Georgia building contractors why even bother getting licensed? I found if Someone was to build a home for example , It happened to me, I paid out 90% of total cost, he completed 50% of the work, and just stole the rest, left a complete mess, but Georgia license’s board can do nothing he put my name as the builder , Even though the home is as now unlivable, BBB will only go after a Business if it’s a member. if you’re unlicensed not a member they can continue without as much as a warning. Lawyers tell me you can sue him but you’ll get a judgment in your favor but no money,,. This is two examples of fraud against a consumers, I’m not perfect by any means but this I will do if you give me a 50.00 bill to buy something for you, if it costs 49.99 I’ll give you the penny back, if it costs 59.99 I’ll pay the difference and say nothing. Honesty, ethical Business behavior is becoming rare in America, as long as it’s legal who cares if we screwed that guy out of his last hope. The two examples I gave, in today’s world people when hearing this story are steadfast those SOB’S should be in jail, but these people I believe are regarded as "good businessman" and in my case honesty will lose every time to the businessman. Contact me or help start a petition against this type unethical slight of hand BS.

If you pay $600.00 a month for insurance…I hope you have at least 5 cars and 3 young drivers, because that is a ton of money for insurance. 1st you should shop around for insurance $3600 every 6 months for auto insurance leaves a lot of wiggle room for a better quote. 2nd its in your insurance companies best interest to NOT have you charged for any portion of the accident. That means YOUR company had to pay. Where is the slight of had there? They would be screwing themselves over just to get a tiny bit of premium from you? I don’t think so.

You example about gave about the contractor as little to nothing to do with insurance and insurance companies. Sure builders are supposed to be bonded but an insurance company is not screwing you or anyone else over here. I find it hard to believe, that this contractor had such great recommendations, he chose you as the first to screw over and had never had a complaint ever. Did you do your due diligence? Who recommended him? I’m sorry it happened but blaming insurance is barking up the wrong tree.

Also just to reiterate on the Auto insurance. I have 2 cars, full coverage, $500,000 coverage and I have a ticket and an at fault accident on my record. I pay $67.00 a month. I’m not saying you should be paying what I’m paying…but seriously get some quotes. And if you really want to challenge this, turn in a complaint to the insurance commisioner of your state. The commisioner makes sure insurance companies follow state law for insurance.
