Not content with ripping off people with a compulsory tax, aka car insurance, the insurance companies are looking to screw more money from parents who put their children on their policies. Maybe the insurance companies should not have paid out so much to fraudsters, and should not be awarding themselves muiti-million bonuses.

Car insurance is legalised theft, operated by a cosy cartel, protected by the government.

I live in geneva, but not too far from orlando. Could you give me a list of insurance companies to call? I had a 3 month suspicion for 18 points within 18 months. I called API express, they were who I had before and they were pretty cheap…I called them yesterday and they said since I had 20 points on my license, my down payment would be $551, and 6 payments of $416. They said they could only find one insurance company that would insure me…

Do car insurance companies know if I currently have insurance?

So my insurance lapse a couple months ago without me knowing it (stupid auto pay) and now currently looking at other insurance companies, but my question is would they know if my insurance through another company lapse at all? If not, then I’ll just say I’m still with them and get the cheaper rate like I was getting.

As an agent, I have to run a C.L.U.E. report, insurance report and MVR before the policy is finalized. We know about tickets, accidents, prior insurance…each time it has lapsed or you have changed and even though we don’t see your credit score or anything on your credit, your rates can be influenced by your credit score….depending on the insurance carrier. Even if you lie, they will know.

Assuming the same level of coverage, are all car insurance companies going to be equally willing to pay out?

In this competitive insurance market, you typically get what you pay for. Claims handling will be quicker and easier for you if you have a well established company. Most companies will pay what the policy owes. The difference lies in the amount of time your claim takes, the extent of your involvement (work you have to do), the efficiency of the company handling the claim and the staffing that the company has in place for accidents, storms, etc. Some companies will pay claims that they legally don’t owe in order to win over more business. State Farm and Allstate paid claims which they did not legally owe (off premise power outage, prevention of using home by a civil authority DUE to damage in the area) to insureds during last years hurricanes. When a catastrophic event occurs, these companies use these quick claim payments outside the policy, as a marketing tool for more business.

Also, if you have cut rate insurance, there is a reason. The service adjuster will typically have less education, lower salary’s, less innovative technology, and more claims to adjuster ratio then others. They are typically overworked and you should not expect a call back the same day you leave the adjuster a message. They have to make the cost of somewhere. Adjuster’s will have a caseload of 100 to 600 claims. Anything over 200 is more than one adjuster can handle. I am an adjuster that works on contract basis, so I have worked at many insurance companies over my career and have seen these trends.

I am interested in getting my own car insurance, as i have been on my father’s plan for about a year. I was able to find liability coverage with progressive for about 39.00 a month which is great for me, however I am wondering whenever they ask you if you are a college student and if you have a certain GPA, do they have a way of verifying this information. Also, when they ask you how long you have had your license, can they verify this as well, as I have not had my license for very long. Thanks

This was an accident where I accidentally scraped a mailbox, putting an indention into the side of my car…it is about a $1,500 repair; my old insurance had a $500 deductible, but I never filed-and now I’m wanting to change companies. For lack of a better term, is this like having a pre-existing condition with medical insurance?

You cannot claim it as you were not covered with the new company at the time of the incident.

Do car insurance companies allow other policies to be used on the car affected?

I’m thinking of getting insurance with Norwich Union on my parents’ car. They are with esure, who do not accept drivers under 25. I was wondering if it was possible to get a policy with Norwich Union, with my parents as additional drivers, and not have it affect their own insurance. Thanks.

You can only have a single policy on a car.
So you would either have to cancel their policy or have them change insurers and you don’t take out a policy yourself.

If you think about it, if there was an accident then which company would be responsible for it??
