Do car insurance companies consider education/income/occupation in determining the price of a policy?

July 16, 2010 - 7:20 pm 3 Comments

To add to the ever-growing pile of insurance questions… We all know insurers consider things such as driving records (claims, accidents, tickets, etc…), age, characteristics of the area in which the car is parked/garaged, type of car, credit history (I BELIEVE I have named all of the most salient measures). However, other information is also collected such as your education, income level and occupation. Seems to be quite a lot of excess data for an auto insurance company. So, are any of these ever used in determining the cost?

Different companies consider different factors and give them different weights in calculating premium. Credit record matters to many companies. Usually they are only interested in your occupation if it might affect your risk (someone who delivers newspapers has a different risk than a real estate agent, who has a different risk than a regular commuter, etc.) I’ve never heard education or income being considered, but anything’s possible.

can car insurance companies use info against if you been at the hospital before?

I am requesting a settlement and would like to know if the insurance company can use the information from when i was at the hospital two yrs prior on suicide attempt. some told me that insurance companies are crooked and will turn the info around and make look i plotted the car accident which is not my fault at. two years earlier has nothing to do with the accident. will they action and use it against me?

Have you given them permission (signed a form) to request your medical history? If not then I don’t think they can

Which car insurance companies are cheapest for teen girls?

July 16, 2010 - 7:20 pm 6 Comments

I am a girl going on 17 years old and I finally just got my license. Now my dad and I are looking for the cheapest plan in the cheapest insurance company to go on for my car insurance. Help?

It really depends on what state you live in but it is best for you to get your ins. policy under your dad’s (with him and his car). If you have a g.p.a. of 3.0 or more you can get the good student discount, 3 years or more driving experience with good record you get the good driver discount, you can get the multi-car discount with your dad and his car. In CA with Farmer’s insurance if your dad has a good driving record then you can get a discount for having a good driver to look up to as a good influence. Best of luck and congrats!

Does anyone know an car insurance company that accepts no claims from international countries? My mother wants to use hers from Lebanon (Asia) to help reduce her quote.

There are none.

A few will accept no claims bonus form other E.U. countries. No insurance companies will accept N.C.B. from outside the E.U.

Who are the best and worst car insurance companies?

July 16, 2010 - 7:15 pm 9 Comments

I’m looking for a new car insurance company and would like to hear other peoples experiences to help me choose. Thanks!

Well from my experience Allstate treated me very well, but they were quite expensive. Allstate was expensive even with both of us being older and with a clean driving record. We switched to Geico and it has been great. The insurance was cheaper, and we have someone to speak with 24/7 on the phone. We had a slide-off this Christmas, and Geico was pleasant and fast to deal with.

Is it bad to switch car insurance companies after 6 months?

July 16, 2010 - 7:15 pm 3 Comments

I bought my first car (not under my parents name) about a year ago. I stayed with my parents insurance company for 6 months, but then swtiched to Allstate because they offered me lower premiums. After 6 months my premium has increased with Allstate, so I am thinking about switching again. Is this bad to do??? I have had no accidents or tickets so I am not even sure why it went up, but I can’t afford these ridiculous rates! Thanks in advance!

there is no reason not to move if you can find the coverage you want and need cheaper elsewhere, and to be honest finding it better and cheaper than Allstate is usually not hard to do.

Do car insurance companies always increase your premiums or drop you after excessive points?

July 16, 2010 - 7:15 pm 3 Comments

Does that depend on the company, and how much or how little can the premiums increase or does that also depend you your car insurance company.

I have 8 points now unfortunately, pending on 10 who knows, and in my state of NJ that’s okay just as long as it doesn’t hit 12, then you’re suspended for a while.

Anyways, I’m worried about how this might affect my car insurance next cycle. I’m with GEICO currently and have been with them for several several years.

You may want to consider taking driver’s ed to get some of those points dropped off. Each insurance company is different, and you would need to check with your insurance company directly to find out about increases in your payments. In general, just about every auto insurance company will give you discounts, and reduce points if you take a driver’s education course.

Is it normal for Car Insurance Companies to take your car after filing a claim?

July 16, 2010 - 7:10 pm 5 Comments

Basically I was in a car wreck, I filed a claim against the other driver’s insurance company, they agreed to pay me the face value of the car instead of repairing my vehicle. Today they called and are talking about wanting to pick up the car and the title for my car in exchange for the payment.. Is this normal? They never mentioned that I would have to give them my car.

They’re paying you for the value of the car…essentially meaning they decided it was a total loss…if you accept the settlement, the car is now their’s and the money is your’s. I’ve two cars in recent years and they were both relatively new vehicles and after I accepted the settlement offered, they (State Farm) towed the vehicles to one of their places.

When changing car insurance companies, do you have to have your car certified? PLEASE ANSWER?

July 16, 2010 - 7:10 pm 5 Comments

The car is already insured and has been for several years. I had in certified when I first got the car and it’s first insurance policy with me. I have moved and am in a part of the country my insurance company does not cover and am in need of a new company. Do I have to have my car inspected and certified by a mechanic before hand?

I asked this question in the proper section but no one answered. I know there will be someone here to see it that might know.

Thank you.

No you don’t. You can just go get some insurance. love honey
