Which Insurance company should I work for? Bankers Life and Casualty or American Income?

July 16, 2010 - 10:25 pm 2 Comments

I had an interview with Bankers Life today and I have an interview with American Income next Tuesday. I haven’t obtained my license yet but I am considering becoming an agent.

How do I know if this career choice is right for me?
And which company pays more and provides more benefits?

Banker’s is a B-Rated carrier. I don’t think I could sell a b-rated carrier with a straight face…also consider their parent company, Conseco, almost went belly up. I believe they actually filed bankruptcy and exited it…if memory serves.

Why not go to work for a broker so you can sell the right plan for the client every time and not just the plan of the company that’s on your business card. The client wins and you win too.

Should I go to interviews with Insurance Companies?

July 16, 2010 - 10:25 pm 2 Comments

i posted my resume online and 2 to 3 insurance companies responded. I am uneasy about working for them because I feel I will not make money if I do not sell. Liberty Mutual and Bankers life and casualty. I don’t want a job with out base salary.

Most likely, they are straight sales jobs, no sell, no commission.

But you should ask them about it when they’re setting up the interview. If they are evasive, just trying to get you in, turn them down.

Can you tell me the difference between these GEICO companies?

July 16, 2010 - 10:20 pm 1 Comment

*Government Employees Insurance Company
*GEICO General Insurance Company
*GEICO Indemnity Company
*GEICO Casualty Company

Who gets underwritten by which one? Which one is the best (rates) to get underwritten with?

Look, Geico doesn’t use agents, so no one here will be able to tell you for sure.

But in general EVERY insurance company has multiple subsidiary companies. You can’t go to them and demand, hey, I want your super preferred rates. You go to them, lay your qualifiers out on the table, and THEY decide which rates you get.

If you’re 21, and drive a Camaro, with two speeding tickets under your belt, there’s just NO WAY they’re going to offer you their cheapest rates. They will underwrite you, and THEN select which subsidiary company you qualify for.

Underwriting guidelines for each subsidiary, are proprietary information – NO company is going to list what you have to do to qualify for each one.

Has anybody ever heard of "Bankers life and Casualty insurance? Is this a good company to work with?

I have an appointment with this people for a job interview. They claim that They’ve been in business since the 1870’s, but I’ve never heard of them ( then again I’m from another country). Can anybody tell me if this is a good place to work in?

If you have an interview with them, get ready to be entertained. I went for an interview a few years back and it sounded like such a hoax. The one I went to was a group interview and they kept saying about how you can get bonus checks for $30,000 within your first couple months. If money was that easy to make, we would all be rich.

The company sells insurance to the elderly in the event that they need to be put into a nursing home or have home assisted care (been a few years since I heard their spheal so I may be a bit off). They have apparantly been around for quite some time, but like you, I had never heard of them either and I have never heard of anyone who worked for them either.

Go to the interview, listen to the info and make up your own mind. I just remember all of us at the interview leaving making jokes about how much of a hoax it sounded like.

July 16, 2010 - 10:15 pm 3 Comments

The insuarance company was incorporated in 1903 in Nashville TN. The building was called Life and Casualty Tower. The Company’s name was Life and Casualty Insurance Company of Tennessee. It was bought out by american general insurance company of Texas .

You do not need to cash in any policy. The new company will take ownership of your policy. If you want to keep it. If not, they will cash it out with the same provisions your old policy had.

Stonebridge Casualty Insurance Company affiliated with Bank of America?

July 16, 2010 - 10:15 pm 2 Comments

I’ve had an account with BOA for a while now and started getting all these calls from companies supposedly affiliated with them offering me different products. I’ve put myself on the "do not call list" but it takes up to 30 days to go into affect. Meanwhile, I recieved a call from a Health Insurance company "Stone Bridge" who said they’d mail me out some information about their policy, which did sound good over the phone. The telemarketer said I’d have 30 days to review the policy and if I decided that I didn’t want it, to call the number on the brochure to cancel otherwise they’d charge $30 a month straight from my BOA account. They called me nearly 3 weeks ago, which the woman said I’d have 30 days from the phone call, and I still haven’t recieved the paperwork. So I’m wanting to cancel so they don’t charge my account. This is bad business as far as I’m concerned, and I have no other way to contact them other than the caller ID number on my phone from that day. Does anyone know of any other way to contact this company? Thank you.

I suggest contacting your bank (BofA) on your banking side and tell them to close your account and open another. There is some unscrupulous business practices out there where they will offer something great going out of the gate, only to start ripping you off as soon as that 30 day window passes…Your bank (if that Health Ins Co has taken money from your account, your bank can give you their toll free phone number. Cancel your current checking/ATM account and get a new one…
