Need help remembering the insurance company that produced the commercial with the dad and little girl…?

July 16, 2010 - 8:00 pm 1 Comment

What is the insurance commercial that starts out with a father looking at his little girl – and she is asking him to borrow the car to go the movies – he then asks her who was she going with – and she names a few people and then mentions a boy named Dylan?

Then you see the little girl is really a teenager but the father still thinks of her as his little girl – but he allows her to borrow the car.

Then you see her taking the keys and walking out the door – then panning back to the dad, you see his young son come out and he asks him where he was going and the boy grabs his jacket and says he is going to work…

Who is the company that produced this commercial? I cannot remember and I haven’t seen it on TV lately. I love this commercial and…I just want to know. Haha.

The commercial is a State Farm Young Drivers commercial. I found it by searching Youtube.

are the big insurance companies going bankrupt?

July 16, 2010 - 7:56 pm 5 Comments

Allstate has been advertising on television that they have lower rates than Geico insurance. They also say in their commercial that they have rates about 75% lower than other companies. Is this a big push to write policies and get cash because they are strapped. Allstate is among the most solid and respectable of insurers. This year things are gonna get bad with layoffs and then the domino effect will occur. what do you think?

Some insureurs have had a squeeze on their capital position this year becasue of substantial losses in the their general portfolio. (AIG, HIG, PRU, MET, GNW and others) Many of these companies bought these toxic CDO’s which continue to depreciate in value. One ratio that most general investors or poliyholders are not aware of is called its Risk Based Captial ratio. This is a very importnat number as it a percentage of capital a company has on hand to pay policy holders if a company becomes insolvent. Most insureurs had substantial reserves and the insurance industy has very profitable margins associated with its products. In addition these companys are backed by a state insurance fund. The insurance industy will weather this storm better than most other industries although there will be some consolidation.

does anyone know of insurance company who will accept commercial vehicle ncb on a private car policy-thank you

July 16, 2010 - 7:56 pm 2 Comments

Bought a car and my 3yrs ncb is on my van – need to find a company who will let me transfer this onto a private car policy.

You should beable to put on your personal policy – just state that it is an "artisan" vehicle – used for both business and personal. I know GMAC, and Progressive both do this – I’m sure other companies do too.

Why do we Australians allow insurance companies to dictate the terms?

It has occurred to me for some time that insurance companies are refining their liability more and more with unreasonable policy parameters, so thier exposure to liability is far less. Whilst I understand there are commercial imperatives for this I also believe there are strong indications that it is not all about honest, above board commerce. For example, how many people do you know who have been ‘caught’ with a housing policy that does not cover this or that particular aspect because the policy parameters were not met? I knows of many. This lack of taking responsibility for the business they claim ot be in: Insurance is expanding into all areas of our lives and businesses and our community suffer. It is as if we accept that by default that Insurance companies are Big Brother and fast becoming The Law behind the law. This is not a mad conspiracy theory. Think about it. Why are we letting it happen??

This problem is in the U.S. also. Insurance companies are like all other companies. Please the stock holders and screw the customers. The worst thing about this attitude is that some governments require you to have insurance (automobile insurance for example), but there seems to be no laws requiring payment for loss. Insurance companies also are intruding on our personal lives. My health insurance provider gives me a $20.00 monthly discount if I participate in their annoyance program. I have to do something health related every quarter or I pay higher rates. So far all I have to do is donate blood regularly to keep them happy. What I hate about this program is that they call my wife and 11 year old son and question them about their health habits. I hope there is a special place for insurance executives in the after-life, hopefully with flames and pitchforks.

How much does general commercial/ business insurance cost for a start up Ltd Company?

July 16, 2010 - 7:51 pm 2 Comments

The Ltd Company is based in the UK, has traded for about 6 months, has 2 Directors who work there full time and 2 interns who operate from the office premises.
What is the approximate cost for business insurance for such a Company?

You will need to contact an Insurance Broker. Each business had different needs. My business was catering, so our Insurance would be different than an office based one.

How do I get started in the commercial insurance industry? (sales)?

July 16, 2010 - 7:51 pm 5 Comments

I am looking to start a career in the Insurance industry, specifically the commercial insurance industry, which I have heard can be extremely lucrative. I do not have any insurance experience, but have outside and inside sales experience in the mortgage and auto industry. I would be willing to start at the bottom, go through training, etc, to secure a position. I am not sure where to start or which companies to look at, does anyone have any suggestions.

The first thing you need to do is get some experience and about the only way to do that is in a trainee job. (I personally started out as a claims adjuster). You have to learn the insurance business. Most states require insurance agents to be licensed. It’s a bit difficult to pass the license exam if you don’t know anything about insurance.

There are also property casualty courses that you can take at most colleges. A Tech College or Junior college might be your best bet to start looking at that. It would give you the basics of what insurance is. There are so many different types of policies, especially in the commercial end of the business, you definitely need some background to get into this. Otherwise, you’ll wind up getting sued for errors and omissions for not providing your client with the proper coverage.

Start with any of the major insurance companies or a broker. Most of them are always looking for trainees that want to get a start in the business.

What insurance company has that commercial that says "If we’re not in a recession, it sure feels like one"?
