Motorcycle Insurance Companies Question?

July 17, 2010 - 3:42 am 1 Comment

My father has his bike insured with a certain company. Another company has cheaper insurance for me on that bike than his does. Is it possible for me to buy my own policy from a separate company without affecting his coverage?
I actually found out that I can not be insured with my father’s company because I am not 21.

Probably not. But what are the limits of his insurance compared to your quote? I’ll bet your quote is for the minimum your state will allow. After you hit that amount, it’s coming out of your (or daddy’s) pocket.
Trust us old bikers, we have learned from experience what things should be.
I learned when a friend hit another biker and all he had was state minimum ($10.000.00) The helicopter ride the other rider took was $7500.00. Then surgeries, hospital stay, loss of income, pain and suffering, permanent disability (partial), months of rehab, replacing his bike ($30,000) And that was just the other guy. He got his leg broken in 3 places, broken ribs, internal injuries requiring surgery, and a bunch of stitches. He lost his house! Now they garnish his pay every week to pay against what he owes the insurance companies and this man. He gets about half his pay, and will probably loose half his retirement (social security) and still not pay off what he owes before he dies.

Will the insurance company contact the financial institution that financed my car when I start a new policy?

July 17, 2010 - 3:42 am 3 Comments

I am thinking about changing insurance companies, and I am wondering if the insurance company contacts the lender or if I am responsible to do so?

You need to ask the agent when you purchase the policy. The company should contact your lender (provided you gave the lender’s information), but it is important you ensure this happens in a timely manner. Your lender may have penalties if they believe you have not kept their investment insured. To be doubly sure, you should just fax your new declarations page to your lender.

I am appealing denial of dental implants and how can the insurance company get away with this?

July 17, 2010 - 3:42 am 2 Comments

I had my right mandibular removed due to cancer in 2002. [did not smoke or drink]. I appealed the policy on dental implants and the medical review board for the company I work for over turned their denial in 2003. The company changed insurance companies in 2004. I got the run around and was finally allowed to appeal them. I was also sent a letter stating I could have this done in 2004. The insurance company still would not let the doctors do this procedure. Mainly reconstruction of my jaw and implants. The doctors coded properly and twice sent preauthorization with no responses. I finally was allowed a second appeal. I was given the forms and sent the appeal in. I have proof of delivery but the insurance company said they misplaced the package. Finally after 2 months they sent another denial letter also stating this was the end of the administrative process, which is not true, I am allowed a third appeal which I did and sent it in. I have not heard back yet. A rep from the insurance company and the company I work for are to look at the appeal. I am sure I will get the same response even tho I have proof of delivery. I am not finding any lawyers interested in this and I feel I have a good case, since the insurance company has mishandled this whole appeal. I would send all this information to the ceo but am afraid I would lose my job, even tho my work record is good. I also requested, twice now, copies of the whole appeal case, which I am allowed to do with no charge to me. This company is a big company world wide.

If you are in the US you can file a complaint with the state bureau (department) of insurance. You are a consumer and have certain rights. The state will investigate to see if your insurance company has mishandled your case.

Car accident involving two parties with same insurance company?

July 17, 2010 - 3:42 am 3 Comments

Hi there,
My dad was involved in a car accident where the other party was at fault in WA state. Both parties have same insurance company. The Insurance company deemed the car as a total loss and sent a check of $4000. Meanwhile my dad had to go to a doctor because his neck is super stiff. Did anyone have similar experiences? $4000 isn’t enough for a new car, and they can’t afford car payments at this time (my mom has was just laid of), should we get a lawyer to contact the insurance company to demand higher compensation? Thanks!

The insurance company does not owe your Dad a new car. They owe him the amount he could have reasonable sold his car for just before the accident. Apparently that amount is $4000.

Your Dad owned a used car worth $4000. Therefore, he should take the $4000 and purchase another used car for $4000 cash. Then he is right back where he was before the wreck – driving a used car worth $4000. If he wants to take the $4000 and put it toward a new car and have payments, that’s an option. But the insurance company and the other driver do not owe him a better car than what he had.

Getting a lawyer does not change what his car is worth.

As far as the injury claim goes, that is still pending. That will be a separate settlement that will be worked out once your Dad is done treating and is feeling better.

When a college students submits his grades to a car insurance company, how does the company verify the grades?

July 17, 2010 - 3:37 am 8 Comments

I don’t know if the insurance companies actually check the grades i send them or not. I would like to know.

They look at your report card. Yes, a real live underwriter actually looks at the report card, before approving the good student discount.

What would it be considered if an ex-spouse did not take the ex off their company paid health insurance?

July 17, 2010 - 3:37 am 6 Comments

They didn’t take them off because they thought they had to cover them for 3 yrs after the divorce. Which obviously was wrong. They have removed the person now. But could the company or insurance company get them for fraud?

That’s insurance fraud. What will happen, is that the subscriber – the employee – will get a bill for all the money the insurance company paid out for the ex spouse, while they were fraudulently covered.

Charges won’t be pressed unless the employee doesn’t reimburse the insurance company.

Can I get Additional Liability Insurance (ALI) for rental car from insurance companies without owning a car?

July 17, 2010 - 3:37 am 3 Comments

I do not own a car and need to hire from rental companies frequently. Rental companies charge $13+ for Additional Liability Insurance (ALI), which is mandatory. Can I get this insurance from insurance companies like GIECO or Progressive?

autoinsurance.undonet.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

How can i find a lawyer to sue my phone and insurance company?

July 17, 2010 - 3:37 am 3 Comments

For the past two years I have been dealing with claims and disputes regarding my former auto insurance company and telephone company (separate issues). Basically, they have both screwed me and now I want to try to do something about it by suing them. Trust me, i am not the type of person who would ever have done this in the past, but enough is enough. What kind of lawyer should i search for? Are there any sites i can search to find them? What should i be cautious about? Has anyone ever had to sue their auto insurance company for breach of contract?

chances are, when you signed all that paperwork for you insurqance and phone, you entered into an agreement to waive your right to sue, and entered into an arbitration agreement. the agreement probably requires you to fly somewhere, pay for 1/2 the expense of arbitraution ($5,000 give or take), and if you win you get your money. but the arbitratoir decides, and the agreement allows the company to pick the arbitrator (hello).

How many sick Americans have been dumped or rejected by health insurance companies?

July 17, 2010 - 3:31 am 16 Comments

How many people in the U.S. have been denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition? How many have been dumped from coverage because they became ill enough that covering them was too expensive for the company?

As it is, insurance companies are allowed to dump coverage for people who get sick and deny coverage to people who are already sick. I’m aware that these things happen, but I don’t know how common they are.

I want to find an estimate for how many people in the U.S. have been dumped or rejected in any particular year or decade.

According to a recent national survey, approximately 12.6 million non-elderly Americans have been turned down for coverage due to a pre-existing condition in the last 3 years, and 1 in 10 cancer patients have been denied coverage and 6% have lost their coverage because they have been diagnosed with cancer. Also, over the past 5 years, 3 large insurers have been revoked coverage due to being too expensive to continue covering. You will find other numbers in the following link. And please, before anyone disputes it due to the source, take a look at the sources for the link. It is researched.

As for the other posters saying things like "countries with universal health care have death panels" and "the wait list for cancer screening is a year long" have you ever lived in a country with universal health care? Because I live in Canada, and if you do some research, you will find out that there are, in fact, no such things as death panels here. Also, when it comes to cancer screening, the wait lists are short. In fact, my mom, who is considered high risk for breast cancer, has never had to wait for a mammogram. She gets them on schedule every year. Plus, 85% of all cancer clinics in Canada have a wait time of 4 weeks or less for most types of cancer from initial diagnosis to treatment, and if the treatment is urgent, there is no wait. The problem is, when Americans who want to dispute the quality of care offered in Canada look at the numbers, they see numbers from 10 years ago and think that the situation is the same today. Canada’s health care system reached a critical point in the late 1990’s due to many budget cutbacks, but our government has been working hard and providing a lot of funding to improve the system to what we have today, which, in my opinion, is more than sufficient. Compared to the attitude of Canadians 10 years ago, you will find that today, many Canadians are happy with our health care system, and our only complaint is a lack of specialists in certain areas. From what I understand about the American system, this is a plague there as well.

Does anyone have a phone number to Old American Company insurance?

July 17, 2010 - 3:31 am 4 Comments

I was in a car accident that was not my fault and the other party has some insurance company called Old American Company. I can’t find any phone number or website for this insurance company. I’ve never even heard of them. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this or has a phone number. I want to get the ball rolling on this claim and am in need of a rental car.

Try 800-820-2981. That should get you in contact with the company. Good luck!
