Just got a ticket for 60 in a 50 zone. I’m 45 and haven’t got a ticket or been in an accident since I was 20. REsponse is my insurance company and wonder if most companies check for tickets? The ticket was in another state also.
I would take a day to go to court(3 hour ride) if it was possible to rid myself of the points. I don’t want to hire a lawyer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Points are a state specific thing and are used to determine if you get your license suspended, etc.
Insurance looks at the MVRS report which is a national repository of all states DMV records for you. This report shows your entire driving record including tickets and accidents. Basically, unless the ticket gets thrown out or reduced to a non-moving violation it is still going to show up there. A common misconception is that driving school lowers your insurance. All this does is remove points from your license. The ticket is still on your MVRS report.
Also, MOST insurance companies overlook 1 ticket and start surcharging when you have 2 or more.
And directly to your question…
Yes, almost all insurance companies look at this information when your policy renews.
It seems that the insurance companies, drug companies and doctors must see the writting on the wall. Why don’t they band together to form a sweeping overhaul themselves so the government won’t step in? Does anyone have any ideas about how if the three banded together what reforms they could bring?
Why would they want healthcare to be less expensive when they are making so much money?
This is America, we’re all about the dough.
Sad, isn’t it?
Unless medical service providers lower costs so that average people can afford procedures and medication, we’re all going to need to depend on our private insurers. I’d like to hear from those who’ve had good experiences with their companies (provide company names, please!)
My husband is a retired Marine, so we use Tricare for our insurance. We pay only $115 every quarter, so we are very fortunate to have insurance for such a low cost. This price includes all family members, including kids until they’re 21, or 23 if they’re a student full time. The only problem I’ve had and many people have gone through the same thing is that they’ve switched formularies several times on some medication I take, forcing me to switch to another brand or I would have had to pay a much higher co-pay. And one time I had to have a procedure done and they made me go to a military base to have it done instead of going to a regular doctor out in town. If you’re within so many miles of a base and need something done, they will probably make you go to the base. We lived farther away than the maximum miles, but I still had to go to the base.. It wasn’t no big deal, but I would have liked to have stayed with a local doctor. We previously used Aetna with my husband’s former employer because my employer didn’t take Tricare (a doctor’s office) and our co-pays were written off since we were employees. I never had any problems with Aetna.
Insurance companies are companies, right? Cancer costs a lot of money for treatment. If she kept calling companies looking to acquire a policy while she had cancer, why should they have granted her one when they know it’s going to cost them? Are they supposed to be in the business of just giving the money away?
Why didn’t Obama set out to start a fundraiser for her? Or even, with all of her contacts, why didn’t her liberal friends do this?
You make the assumption that he cares about his mother’s death. Remember she was white!
Public option creastes a non-for-profit entity that competes with insurance companies that are for-profit.
In case no one here knows, a utility company like, Electricity, has a natural monopoly and the governement fixes prices for the company.
either way the govt will control healthcare
i say public option for the millions living with low-income and cannot afford healthcare
I live in Ontario, Canada, my girlfriend and I live together and each have our own cars and insurance with different companies. My insurance company keeps asking for my gf’s insurance company info and policy # because we live under the same roof. She believes they have no right to ask this and its compromising her privacy. Can’t she just sign a waiver saying she wont drive my car, ever?
They want to make sure that she has her own policy and is not using your car – and that you guys are lying about her use of the vehicle.
Just give them the information and once they confirm she has a policy of her own on her own vehicle all will be fine.
Otherwise, they will require she be listed on your policy as a driver.
They do have the right to ask for this. Too many people have licensed drivers with bad driving records in their homes, provide cars for that bad driver’s use and never list the bad driver on the policy. You can thank all the dishonest people for causing the insurance company to not just take your word for it. Too many companies have been burned by that one.
So – here are your choices, add her to your policy and pay the additional premium or get coverage with her company /her agent. Because just about any company is going to ask for proof of her insurance.
if you don’t add her to the policy or provide the requested information – your company will probably non-renew your policy.
I’m a 27 year old man in perfect health as far as I know. I’m average size. I’m about 5′10, 185 lbs. Since there are so many health insurance companies, which health insurance company will provide the most affordable health coverage for me?
Most companies have a variety of different plans from which to choose, from the "affordable" i.e. budget plans with many limitations and exclusions up to the fully comprehensive plans. Companies do not write policies in every state so the company with the cheapest rates will depend upon your location. You need to contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget. They can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don’t get with the different policies. There is no extra charge using an agent.
The car was fully covered by insurance and was totaled in an accident. It is 100% of my fault. I have claimed it with the insurance company. The company has sent adjuster to evaluate the car. What will be happening next? What should I expect?
While you are waiting, clip ads for similar vehicles from papers, auto trader on-line, dealer flyers, anything you can find showing the average selling price of similar vehicles in your area. After the adjuster evaluates, they will make you an offer. If the offer is the same or higher than your examples. Hum and haw and try to negotiate up.. If the offer is lower, use the clippings to show the offer is a low-ball, and ask for more money.
I had got rear ended last month, thanks to some knucklehead who wasn’t paying attention. There were passengers in my car and we’re getting medical attention. I had switched insurance companies because my company had a discount with one of the national companies and they could take the payments out of my check. My question is can I still file, even though it’s been over a month?
Yes, call your prior insurance company and file a claim. They may question the delay in reporting, but it is unlikely they will deny coverage.
