Would a socialist approach be better to resolve the financial crisis than what bourgeoisie governments do?

What would a socialist approach to the financial crisis look like? Emergency measures would be taken to transform the great banks, hedge funds, insurance companies and financial houses into public utilities. They would be placed under the democratic control of the working class, with safeguards for the savings of small depositors. Their resources would be used for productive and socially useful purposes and to alleviate the suffering of the population.
Trillions of dollars would be allocated to rebuild the infrastructure, provide new and high-quality housing, improve education, provide universal health care and access to higher education, and clean up the environment. Everyone would be guaranteed a job and a decent wage. The workweek would be reduced, with no loss in pay, and wages would be fully indexed to account for inflation.
The tax burden would be shifted from the working class to the richest 10 percent of the population.
There would be a full and public investigation into the activities of the banks and financial firms and the books of all major corporations would be opened to public inspection.
The wealth of financial industry executives and large stockholders would be appropriated, and they, along with their servants among the political elite, would face criminal investigation for the plundering of the economy that has led to the current crisis.

Sounds wonderful BUT the "rugged individualism" has effectively isolated people from eachother and everyone is afraid they would be "paying for someone else" who in their mind doesn’t deserve it because they are….aliens from outer space or something, not fellow human beings or fellow American citizens.

I’ve been trying to figure out why they for the most part (as in 99% except for Fox) are in favor of the health reform bill. Considering the insurance industry wrote and funded the bill, and their stocks closed at all time highest last week in anticipation of the passage of the bill, is it that those who control the media are friends with the CEOs and Wall Street investors who have a high financial interest and gain in health care? What do you think?

Who gives a darn about the media. Why are our public servants, the people who are supposed to be representing us, so sympathetic to the insurance companies? Our politicians want to make everything nice for the lobbyists.

I am planning to start a financial service company. Insurance and investments specifically.?

First of all, excuse me for being a little selfish and self centered but does it seem like males get more birthday cards from Insurance companies and financial institutions than females. I don’t know, maybe they think it is awkward or something. Whats the deal here? Im missing something.

Yes, you are right. Females get birthday cards once a year, but males get birthday cards 3 – 4 times a year…

do insurance companies pay for your training?

i saw this job im interested in @metlife insurance.
the job is financial service representative. my question is:
the description said "Once you’ve obtained the required life/health licenses and FINRA registrations, you’ll become a part of the team and begin your training"
do they pay for this registration? what about training?
is this a good comp to work for? and does being a financial service rep pay good?

they’ll pay for training, but once you finish you get no salary and will be all commission. plus you have to get the licenses before you sell anything so all this time you will have no income. its ok to get into but be ready to not make any money for a while. your better off searching for a firm that will allow you to partner with senior reps. or work their book of business. otherwise what happens to most people is they get their family and friends on insurance then cant sell anyone else and get fired after making no money.
however, if you do build a book of business (which can take years), the commissions on insurance products is huge. metlife is a quality company, but again, i would look for a more privatized company looking to build you up more.

Thank you for your prompt responses. I should have added more details so you’ll know what I mean. I was rear-ended on the freeway in Chicago last Spring ‘08. The driver of the other car immediately assumed responsiblity and his (out of state) insurance company issued a check for $3,500 to be released of futher involvement (it was very minor; only bumper damage). On the stub attached to the check the description only reads "Bodily Injury Payment-Auto"…….I was up late completing my taxes and remembered this incident and didn;t want it to haunt me later. I searched the web fir answers (even the IRS) and the answer are the same as yours (basically)………..thanks.

If it is a private car there is no liability. If it is a business car & a write off , you treat it as sold for the amount of the claim. In the UK there will be a balancing allowance or charge on your capital allowances.[less a deduction for the private use percentage.]

How short sighted you who say "It’s only one when a homeowner loses his home"

Let me educate you: this is a cascade effect. When homeowners lose their homes, it devalues the rest of your homes and more people end up losing their homes. That is where it needs to be stopped – at the homeowner level.

Considering that they pay virtually nothing in taxes and fight tooth & nail to prevent any legislation to make them pay taxes, I too am mystified by this.

Do you need to have good credit in order to get your insurance license to sell fixed annuities?

I have been offered a job with a financial company that is a broker who sells cd’s, fixed annuities, IRA’s etc and was told that you have to have very good credit in order to get your license and be appointed by the larger insurance companies whose products you will be selling. If so what sort of items are looking for on your credit report.

Well, you don’t need the good credit for the license part, but you will need it for the appointment part.

They want to make sure your bills are current, you’re not over extended, you don’t have any bankruptcies, etc.

If you are looking for an insurance selling career, you have to determine what kinds of insurance products you want to sell. In order to do this, you’ll need to talk to some insurance company managers, to get general ideas of what is available.

You could walk into the local offices of the following insurance companies, and the managers there will be more than happy to assist you. These companies are not listed in any particular order of preference:

Prudential Ins. Co. of America, New York Life, Met Life, Monumental Life, American General Life and Accident, Banker’s Life and Casualty, Western-Southern Life Insurance Co., Liberty Mutual, American National (ANPAC), Equitable Life of NY.

These are a few you could start with. I’m sure someone can help you.
