Is Mercury Insurance a good home insurance company?
They’re ok. It’s more about the POLICY, and which endorsements you have on it, than about the company. Mercury is an A+ rated carrier, so they’re financially strong.

I am searching for a new policy because my insurance company is useless when I have needed them most.
I live in Las Vegas, NV. The current company Virginia Surety Company, Inc. that I have really sucks. It came with the house when we bought it. I am a new home owner and have no clue about what insurance company to go with. All I know is that this company has not been there when I have needed them. Just want to know who has been happy with their Homw Owners policy when they have needed it?
I’ve been with Erie for years. Their prices are decent, and their claim service it top notch.
I own a home that is 300 sq feet. It’s basically a little cottage/studio house. I am looking for a company that will 1) insure a home that small and 2) is affordable. Does anyone have experience with a company they would like to recommend?
The secret to finding cheap home insurance is to do your research and obtain as many quotes as possible. You should start by comparing anywhere from three to five quotes. But if you can find 10 or more companies that offer home insurance coverage, you are really going to be in a good position. The bottom line is simple: the more home insurance companies that are vying for your business the better chance you have of getting the best price.
Moving on, you need to be fully aware of the power of the internet. What does this mean? Simply put, if you want to learn a lot about home insurance and have the chance to obtain plenty of quotes, the internet is where you need to start your search. You can easily find information on home insurance and the companies that sell this coverage via the internet.
As you can see, the secret to finding cheap home insurance is to obtain as many quotes as possible via the internet. When you do this, you will find that you have an affordable policy in place well before the time that you need it.
I found a site on CNN that helps you get quotes according to all your requirements. Its an excellent tool. Try it out

We have a friend that was told by insurance company that he had to get rid of his 2 labs because they are high on the bite list. If he diesn’t get rid of them the insurance company will cancel him.
Yes, they can. However, Labs are not generally considered biters and I’m wondering what list they were looking at.
Have either of the dogs bitten anyone?
There seems to be something else going on here. Read the article below though and tell them to find another insurance company. Not all insurance companies are anti-dog. They’re just anti-dogs that bite and I’m having a problem with Labs being classed as biters. They are not a breed known for biting. If they were, Guide Dogs for the Blind wouldn’t be using them as one of their main breeds for Guide Dogs.
Additional info: Here’s the only dog bite list I could find. Labs are not on it. (the number at the end of each breed is the number of fatalities between 1979 – 1998)
1. Pit Bull — 76
2. Rottweiler — 44
3. German Shephard — 27
4. Husky — 21
5. Malamute — 15
6. Wolf-Dog Hybrid — 14
7. Mixed Breed — 12
8. Chow-Chow — 11
9. Doberman-Pincher — 9
10. Great Dane — 8
11. St. Bernard — 8
Call several from the yellow pages that offer best pricing, get quotes and compare. Insurance is a competitive business, but you do have to shop and know what you are looking at, apples to apples (if someone offers oranges, you have to be able to know and to compare).
They have an "A" / Stable rating from AM Best, which is very good. This grade is from June 12, 2007 when it was upgraded to the "A".
Based on their website, I would guess they are mostly a personal lines company (Auto, Home, Renters, etc) but also have a commercial auto division.
Their AMB # is 002146
Their NAIC # Is 21261
They are domiciled in Beverly, MA
Based on nothing more than the "A" rating, I would say it is a good company. If you are really interested you can do more research using the above numbers.
Good Luck.
I’m shopping for home owners insurance and I was wondering whats out there and is good and reliable.
To find a good, reliable company, contact an independent home owner’s insurance broker. A broker works with several companies, instead of just one, and can steer you toward the best policy for a home of your age, size, etc. To find a qualified broker in your area, log on to a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com and fill out the form requesting a quote. The broker will then contact you. Keep in mind, the broker has paid the website for your contact info, so he or she is highly motivated to find a solution for you. Don’t worry, your information cannot be sold to other companies or used for any other purpose. Plus, you are not obligated to buy. Good luck!
On the policy it has a different square footage than on the paper works when I bought the house (it’s less), i was wondering if this is a big deal as it is a 25 square foot difference…where do they get the information? thanks!
Several ways – either you tell them, or they go to your property tax website (more accurate than you telling them) and see what the legal dimensions are, or they go out in person and measure and inspect.
Go outside and measure the outside of your house. If you’re underinsured, it will be a BIG DEAL if you have a claim and can’t get enough to fix your house. If you’re overinsured, you’re paying too much.

Best Wishes,
They died recently and I need to know how much their condo, the contents and their personal belongings were insured for.
They lived in Kelowna, B. C., Canada and both died recently. The estate administrator has not allowed me access to their personal papers, check books, etc.
I don’t want to file a claim. I just want to know what their condo and it’s contents and their personal possessions were valued at and insured for as they were part of their estate. I am one of the beneficiaries.
Is this info available online?
Only the Estate Administrator or Executor can legally find out this information. Even if you had the name of the insurance company they would not be allowed to give this information to you even if you are a beneficiary. The insurance company is only allowed to give this information to the Estate Administrator or Executor. You will just have to trust that the Estate Administrator will include everything in the estate valuation.
I am sorry for your loss. Good Luck.
