What’s the cheapest and best company for home insurance/life?

July 17, 2010 - 4:21 am 3 Comments

We are moving out of our current state and need to switch companies. I was just wondering what the cheapest company (also with good service) for all types of insurance would be. Thanks!

Home Insurance Claim due to Tornado damage: will insurance company agree to pay me instead of contractor?

July 17, 2010 - 4:21 am 3 Comments

Hi, will the insurance company agree to pay me say $5,000 instead of paying the contractor directly, and allow me to hire someone else? How does it work technically? I get $5,000, then if I am able to find contractor I like for less say $4,000, I get to keep the rest!? (pls assume example of $5,000 is based on a quote insurance company got from a contractor) THANKS.

Yes, they will – however, if you have a mortgage on the house, the check gets paid jointly to you and the mortgage company. You won’t be able to cash it – after the work is completed to the mortgage company’s satisfaction, they’ll release the funds.

If you don’t have a mortgage, your plan will work – and you can keep the difference. You can even do the work yourself – but if you do/get bad work, they won’t pay to fix it.

whats the best home insurance company in yakima washington?

there is no one best for everyone in insurance. the best way to find whats best for you is to call an independent agent in your area and have them do the searching for you. its easy and its free. if you can place your home with the same company you have your auto with, this will give you a discount on the policies, so that’s another place to look.

Our Home Insurance Company has written to say we owe them the annual balance to be paid in full.?

July 17, 2010 - 4:21 am 5 Comments

We have been paying on direct debit monthly for our Home Insurance for years. We have been with the same company for about 10 years and made 2 claims totally about £500. We cancelled and went to another company mid-way through our year and they sent us a bill saying we own the balance for this year. Do we actually owe them and must we pay?

Some insurance companies have a clause in their policy that requires that a policy cancelled mid term must be paid for in full. I would make sure that the agent gives you an explanation as to why you owe that premium as well as tell you where in the policy it states that. Once you have their side of it, pull out your policy and view it for yourself. In fact, you may want to look at the policy when you are speaking with your agent.

If the premium is "Fully Earned" then you DO owe the whole premium and you can’t get any premium back for any reason. Although, the company may just be trying to get the money out of you, or it may be some sort of accounting error, so bring it up to your agent and let them explain it to you.

I hope this helps!

Home insurance?

I am buying a home. How do I find a home insurance company? Will my mortgage company help me with that?

Who is your car insurance with? Most reputible insurance agencies handle all kinds of insurance: property, casualty, auto, life, etc. Try Allstate, Statefarm, Farm Bureau, Cotton State. You could also look at your local insurance companies in your phone book … get some quotes, and go with the one that is the cheapest.

Does anyone know anything about "Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance" company?

July 17, 2010 - 4:16 am 2 Comments

I’m considering switching companies from Mercury to Ameriprise because of lower premiums, but I’ve read some not so good things about the company (like they take a loooong time to process a claim). I looked on Consumer Reports, because I feel they have reliable reviews, but I need a subscription, which I do not have.

So any information will be helpful, including a website that perhaps does reviews of auto insurance companies.

Thank you,
Pauley

I dunno about any website that does reviews but I have Ameriprise auto insurance and have had a couple of claims and they did a good job of handling them. Well, they did exactly what they are supposed to do anyways. I even wanted to have some bodywork done at a shop not in their network and didnt have any problems at all. I cant really say they are any better or worse than other insurance companies. The only company I’ve heard a lot of good reviews of is State Farm but theres a reason for that, you get what you pay for.

Who is the best home insurance company in Florida? I am 1 mile from the ocean?

July 17, 2010 - 4:16 am 6 Comments

You’re in Florida, on the coast. Your problem isn’t finding the BEST company, it’s finding someone willing to WRITE you at ANY PRICE. Lots of luck. You’ll probably end up in the state company, Citizens.

Contact a few local insurance agents to see if they can help you. Be prepared to spend A LOT. You’ll probably need three policies – one homeowners, excludes wind & flood, one wind policy, and one flood policy.

Can’t find a local agent? Try these guys: www.huttinsurance.com

But remember, for Florida homeowners, it’s a seller’s market. And most sellers (insurance companies) aren’t interested in ANY Florida property. But you probably know that already.
