How come there is no issue about insurance companies in the show "House M.D."?

Becuase that would make it too real.
People dont watch tv to watch "reality", they watch to escape reality.
So by removing anything bad, people relax and forget their worries.

How do you measure square feet? I have to measure my house for insurance purposes.?

Last year it was insured for 1600 sq ft. This year they decided (on their own wihtout measuring it) that it is 3,000 sq ft!
Even the town taxes me at 1400 sq ft! The insurance company said the town does that to help ppl save on taxes but I’m not so sure I believe them. This town is money hungry. Its not like them to try to help someone. Unless they can help you part with your money.

My house is 1&1/2 story. The upstairs walls are slanted inwards in all rooms but one and the short hallway. It is a 4 bedroom but very small rooms.
The insurance company said to times length by width and then add 1/2 of that for the upstairs. Is that right? I’m not sure I believe them. All they want is my money!

Yep, measure the OUTSIDE of the house, length times width. That gives you the GROUND square feet. Then for the 1/2 story, multiply that number by .5 – half the ground story has more house over it.

If the second half is a finished attic, the town might not know that, and that’s why they’re underestimating you.

What they REALLY want, is if your house burns down, and you want it FIXED, they want you to have enough money to pay to rebuild it so you don’t sue them for not insuring them for enough. And if there’s a PARTIAL loss, they want you fully insured, because if you’re NOT fully insured, you only get paid the percentage that you’re insured, even for a PARTIAL loss.

Where can I find a good template to create an inventory of the house for my insurance company?

The video tape recommendation is okay, but a digital copy placed on CD or DVD would be better. There is also software offered through most Farmers Agents called the Home Organizer.

I am having a communication issue with my landlord and he refuses to tell me the name of his home insurance company for the house i currently reside in.I just need to know how to go about finding this out

Unless you are filing a claim for damage to you or another lease – recognized resident of your rented space, or a guest, you may not be able to get the info. The only other reason you can get the info is if you have incurred damage to your owned property as the direct result of the owner’s actions or negligence. More info on your situation would help.
If you do not have a policy that covers your personal property and personal liability and medical payments to guests, you need a renters policy!

Do different title companies have different rates for title insurance for the same house?

I have 2 Good faith estimates, one has title insurance at 1000, the other at 570.

They are usually very close, within a few dollars. Check to see if one includes the owners policy (which the seller should pay for). You should just be paying the mortgage policy.

I have recently moved into a new house and have had an infestation of mould as the house was not dried out properly before it was sold.
The building company have reffered me to their insurance company who requested photo’s of everything. We sent photos of what we have and explained why we didnt have photos for all.
They have come back with an offer of half of what we need to replace everything. They have not even offered the sum of what we have photos for.
Can someone please point me in the right direction of a template letter to dispute their offer?

Why are you dealing with the building company’s insurance company?
You should have your own buildings insurance and you should refer this to your own insurers.

Who insures your house and are you happy with the premium amount?

My house is insured through State Farm. When I shopped it out two years ago, it was BY FAR the most expensive policy of all the quotes I got.

But it ALSO had the most broad coverage.

Obviously, I don’t buy insurance with price as the primary consideration. The COVERAGE is more important to me.

We just had a house fire, and my eMac was lost in the fire. (Along with my whole house)

So what I’m asking is what will my insurance company give me to replace it? They don’t give cash for it, i know that, but will they give me the brand new flatscreen iMac? Because they don’t even make eMacs anymore.

Oh, they should give depreciated value for that, along with the rest of your items. If you have replacement cost on your policy, AFTER you replace it, they’ll give you the difference.

You’ll have to negotiate with the adjuster, what the "replacement" cost will be.

water flood in house, which company should I look for? and does insurance company will cover?

unless you have flood insurance you can forget your insurance co paying anything but ask them any way .serv pro does water damage clean up etc

My insurance company wants to replace the vinyl siding on one side of my house and re-set the rest?

the problem is its older siding and its faded quite a bit. its way darker behind the laps. My question is "when you re-set the siding will all the pieces of siding that used to be lapped be seen now and if so will the insurance company just re-rap the house?
