Should I pay a collection agency for a medical procedure my insurance company claims they/I don’t have to pay?

Insurance co. issued documentation stating terms of provider’s contract do not requirement payment by insurance co. or patient. Provider has hired a collection agency to collect even though I sent copy of insurance documentation to provider. What are my options?

What you do, is send a copy of that document to the collection agency, with a letter that you are disputing the debt. KEEP A COPY OF EVERYTHING!~ They should respond in writing within 30 days.

My chimney fell onto another persons vehicle, I had no homeowners insurance at the time. They are now sending me the bill and threatening legal action. What is the worst case scenario for me? The claim is approx $5300. thank you

Worst case is that you owe $5300.

What happens is that the other company pays the property damage for their insureds vehicle. They (insurance company) then will sue you for the money because you were at fault for the damage to the vehicle. Had you been insured your property damage liability coverage would have paid for the damage.

Are geico and progressive good insurance companies when it comes to claims?

Here’s an organization called FBIC (Fight Bad Faith Insurance companies) which lists the best and worst insurance companies in order. Progressive ranked at #16 worst, Geico ranked as #24 worst.

Do the insurance companies raise their rates if an accident is reported but there are no monetary claims?

I was involved in a minor fender bender in a parking lot. A guy backed his car and hit mine. There were no damages but it upsets me that the guy just took off without saying anything. I got his plate #, the make and model of his car. If I report the incident to his insurance company will they raise his premium even though I have no financial claim?

I think then best move would to let your insurance company know about this so you are protected and they have your side of the story.

Jeff had some valid points about rates and "rateable" accidents. This does differ by company and state regulation. I would like to point out that no one here knows your driving history and State Regulations and no one here is using the title “underwriter,” so no one can give you a 100% answer on your rates. I agree that your rates should not(not “will not”) increase.

Back more to your question… If you report this to his company, his company will most likely call him and address this with him directly before closing their file. If he denies this they will take his side and your cause is lost. The adjuster will not call you back because they have no reason to since there was no damage and they will most likely just close their file.

Just to cover everything… The only negative I could see is that if you antagonize him by calling his insurance company, he may say that you hit him and if his damage goes over his deductible his company may pursue you(your insurance company for reimbursement). He can’t prove that you did it, but it will tie up your company’s resources. You can file a police report but it was private property and the other driver could do the same thing. Some companies claims departments back up their policy holder so much that they will pursue their policy holders deductible + the 15 dollars they paid over the deductible knowing they have little potential(spending hundreds) to get money back. If it is not your fault, again your rates “should not “ go up, but it just ties up resources.

I would recommend telling your insurance company so that you are protected. Even if you tell his insurance company, all he has to do is lie and no one will investigate further since there was no damage. His claims department would record the accident as your fault (his companies opinion does not mean anything to you though) and close their file. When his policy comes up for renewal, they will see an accident but most likely not at fault.

My Car was stolen and my insurance company claims it is fraud and won’t pay?

My policy was valid and the police report confirms the theft. I have provided many hours of testimony and paperwork related (presumably) to the claim, like telephone records, bank statements, repair receipts for recent repairs – why would I spend money on a car if I was going to have it stolen?? This has been going on for 3 months. I cannot afford a lawyer and am without a car.

If the insurance company suspects fraud….there’s a whole lot more to this story than you are posting. If the insurance company suspects fraud….there’s a reason for that suspicion and I’m not touching this with a 10 foot pole.

You need to follow up with the adjuster handling your claim.

I would like to know what the legal issue is with filing outragious dollar amounts on insurance claims. Do the insurance companies investigate large dollar claims that seem above and beyond? Where do I go for more help?

My therapist has someone whose job is to specifically file insurance claims. The back of my card says that mental health claims go through a different company. I didn’t realize this and it took the lady at my therapists office 6 weeks to figure this out. Shouldn’t she have read my card and figured this out before 6 weeks? I’ve called and the company will pay from 9/29 – end of year . Am I responsible for the previous 6 weeks?

It depends on if your therapist is in network or out of network, and the in network contract with your insurer.

I had a business that was a corporation and lost everything from a fire. Does that effect my rates personally if I get new policy? ie content insurance, homeowners, etc.

Yes, insurance companies report losses to the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange.

If the policy and the claim, and the maling/location address, were all in the name of the corporation, with a seperate corporate tax id number, then the corporate claim will not follow you, personally, unless you’re using the same mailing or location address.

If one of those – the policy, the business name, the location or mailing address – was in your personal name, then it CAN.

When a company pulls a clue report, they look at claims entered by name, by location address, and by mailing address. Or for autos, also including the vin and plate number.
