Liberals will national healthcare punish the insurance companies?

July 17, 2010 - 3:52 pm 10 Comments

You want to punish insurance companies? Make them compete.

As Adam Smith observed, whenever two businessmen meet, "the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices." That’s why we need a third, fourth and 45th competing insurance company that will undercut them by offering better service at a lower price.

Tiny little France and Germany have more competition among health insurers than the U.S. does right now. Amazingly, both of these socialist countries have less state regulation of health insurance than we do, and you can buy health insurance across regional lines — unlike in the U.S., where a federal law allows states to ban interstate commerce in health insurance.

U.S. health insurance companies are often imperious, unresponsive consumer hellholes because they’re a partial monopoly, protected from competition by government regulation. In some states, one big insurer will control 80 percent of the market. (Guess which party these big insurance companies favor? Big companies love big government.)

Liberals think they can improve the problem of a partial monopoly by turning it into a total monopoly. That’s what single-payer health care is: "Single payer" means "single provider."

It’s the famous liberal two-step: First screw something up, then claim that it’s screwed up because there’s not enough government oversight (it’s the free market run wild!), and then step in and really screw it up in the name of "reform."

You could fix 90 percent of the problems with health insurance by ending the federal law allowing states to ban health insurance sales across state lines. But when John McCain called for ending the ban during the 2008 presidential campaign, he was attacked by Joe Biden — another illustration of the ironclad Ann Coulter rule that the worst Republicans are still better than allegedly "conservative" Democrats.

Let companies compete all across America. What ’s the difference if I live in Nevada and I buy insurance from a company in Florida? More competition will mean lower prices and more to choose from. For example, very health conscious, active young people may choose to buy a less expensive policy that covers a catastrophic occurrence, but costs more (higher co-pays) for regular doctor visits or prescription drugs. Older folks may want a policy with lower out of pocket expenses, because they are not in as good of health.

Jobs in Insurance Companies????

July 17, 2010 - 3:52 pm 1 Comment

I have a degree in BSC Corporate management and am now studying a certificate program as a medical biller and coder (no job experience though). Obviously, "insurance companies" pop out all the time while studying to be a coder and led me to think of the job opportunities there (at the other side of the fence, if you may).

Aside from the usual Insurance Agent (that’s responsible for insurance sales), what other jobs can I get without going through another certificate program and what does those jobs entail and there estimated salary?

Thanks.

I use this webpage all the time. I do research on jobs for people and help them find what works best for them.

Good luck.

total loss cars for sale from the insurance company’s not a middle man?

July 17, 2010 - 3:52 pm 1 Comment

I´m looking for car that have small damage but consider total loss food´s are ok
need cars that have minor damege side collisions and flood are ok
this cars are for my use only in in south america

Are you looking to purchase insurance destroyed cars from the client? Why don’t you go to an auction and purchase something. If you want a flood vehicle, and want to resale it, you do know that you have to disclose that information to your buyer, correct? Not disclosing info regarding an insurance destroyed car is fraud, if you are purchasing for your self, I think I would find a more reliable way. Good luck.

Can you get homeowners insurance on a home that is not occupied & will be for sale in the next few months?

July 17, 2010 - 3:46 pm 1 Comment

Mother-in-law just died. Her estate is a mess. She let her homeowners insurance expire (didn’t renew her policy) in 2004. The broker that previously insured the home is having trouble getting an insurance company to pick up the home because it will not be occupied by anyone and will be on the market in a few weeks. I am concerned that something might happen to the home between now and the closing date (which may be months away). Anyone know an outfit that will insure this home?

No, what you need is a "vacant property policy".

Your best bet is going to be with Foremost Insurance – www.foremost.com . . . several companies write vacant property policies, but only Foremost will give you a pro-rata cancellation if the house sells. The others won’t refund your money.

If your agent doesn’t represent Foremost, you can go to their website – www.foremost.com – and find an agent near you who does.

**reading the other answers – Laughing at State Farm writing this. Standard companies will NOT write a vacant property. State Farm won’t touch this. Other companies that would, would be American Standard, and Lloyds of London – but Foremost is cheaper.**

You can’t trust the government or the insurance companies. We’re stuck in a hard dilemma.

thinking of entering insurance sales, have some questions about the industry?

July 17, 2010 - 3:41 pm 3 Comments

to start with what type of insurance sales is the most profitable, which company is the best to work for? can you work as a agent only or do most insurance companies want you to buy a franchise ? what schooling is needed? I have experience as a bartender and some sales experience in michigan

What’s most profitable? Life insurance, Health insurance, bonds.

No one company is the best to work for – they’re all pretty much the same.

If you’re starting out, and you don’t want to work for someone else, you’re pretty much going to have to work for a direct writer (not a franchise, but an independent contractor for like STate Farm or Farmers) because no one else will appoint you.

Schooling depends on state. Go to the MI state insurance department website. You need to pass a licensing test, not be a convicted felon, and that’s about it.

Do you feel insurance companies should cover infant formula to treat a medical condition?

July 17, 2010 - 3:41 pm 5 Comments

Babies born with Milk Soy Protein Intolerance (MSPI) cannot tolerate infant formula that contain milk, soy or a derivative and thus are forced to use expensive formula that most insurance companies refuse to cover, even though the formula is used as a prescribed treatment. Formula that MSPI babies take, e.g. Elecare, Vivonex can run anywhere from $35 – $50 per can. These cans last 3 days at the most. If you are lucky you can sometimes find cans for sale on Ebay. Some parents are forced to use credit cards or take out loans to cover the costs of the formula. When our son had MSPI the formula costs alone were over $4000.

Absolutely!!!! It is a medical condition and sometimes milk allergies can be harmful. Check with your local WIC office. Sometimes the income limits are set high and your doctor can prescribe them.

How are Life Insurance Sales Agents doing in the recession?
Real estate agents are hit hard, but what about Life Insurance Sales? I’m talking about independent agents that work for insurance companies and sell life insurance.
