Some insurance companies pull credit reports, some don’t. Some who do only pull it during the purchase process, not the quote process.

Typically, credit inquiries by insurance companies are considered "soft" inquiries and do not affect credit scores.

Therefore, it’s not something to be concerned about.

I am looking to buy a car soon … but I am a new driver and I know my insurance will be hight … I am planning to go insurance company to insurance company to get quotes. Does that lower my credit score?

I have a new car (well used new car) that I want to take to Germany for 12 months. One insurance company quoted me £8,000! What are the best companies to get a quote from? Either that allow this under the policy, or will charge a reasonable fee for a green card on top of the normal insurance policy.

Just get out the Yellow Pages and look under Insurance; there will be hundreds of ads. Look for company names you recognize, since those have been in business for a long time and survived by doing a decent job. Ask friends, neighbors or coworkers who they use and why they like them–or don’t like them.

You’ll be much better off if you go to a local independent agent. This person will know the market and will be able to guide you to a proper policy if you have pre-existing conditions. The premium going through an independent agent is the same as getting quotes on the web.

I have two speeding tickets on my record that i would rather not have flagged for my insurance company, as they have not audited me yet for it…. but i want to look up quotes on motorcycle insurance! will my insurance provider be notified if i start looking for motorcycle insurance on otherwebsites like gieko and progressive? im just looking for ballpark estimates…. not looking for a set rate

Your current insurance will not be informed that you are researching other insurance quotes and/or discover your speeding tickets from that process. Your insurance company will probably discover your speeding tickets about 60 days before your renewal (most insurance companies do this). If you are currently insured by a standard company, it is very likely that your insurance will be cancelled at that time or you will at least have a large rate increase.

In terms of some of the other comments regarding credit, neither of the comments are correct. Insurance companies pull what is called an insurance score which is a numerical formula based on your credit. However, it is not a credit report. The insurance company does not use this to determine if you are insurance "worthy" or to determine your payment plan. According to actuarial science the better insurance scores translate to the better risks and the more impaired scores translate into higher risk profiles. Stated another way–on average clients who have impaired insurance scores produce more claims. Therefore the insurance companies use the insurance scores as one of the factors (other factors would be your driving record, accident record, mileage, type of car, etc.) that allow them to adequately price the risk to produce a profit.

I have been doing a lot of research to make sure I can afford a motorcycle and I have been very surprised with the cost of insurance. I wasn’t expecting it to be cheap, but really! Everything has been between $2000 and $3000 a year. I am a 19 year old female who has taken the safety course and I have no accidents in my history. Also, the Ninja 250 is such a low powered machine, I thought that made a difference. Is there an insurance company that is cheaper?

There are specialty motorcycle insurance agencies which have lower rates. I was quoted $8,000/yr full coverage for my Ninja 650R which is more than the bike costs. What I ended up doing what paying for the bike in full (you don’t necessarily need to have all the money but just pay the dealer in full with a credit union check, loan, etc.) and getting minimum liability. If I get hurt, anything over my limits falls onto my parent’s health insurance (make sure that would apply to you as well of course). If the bike gets destroyed I’m out $7k. However…if the bike is destroyed I probably will be too and won’t give care about it. I’ve talked to many people about crashes and despite what you might think, it takes a lot to really break one beyond reasonable repair so I figured I’d go for minimum liability. $500/yr rocks!

I looked thru a lot of resolved answers on here from people asking how to get cheaper insurance. Almost always, several people will recommend websites that "supposedly" give ONLINE quotes from different companies, but many of these seem "shady".

I was 18 when i had my first years insurance. The price for myself driving was in excess of £1500 and with 3 additional drivers it went down to £950. Now that i am looking for quotes for my second year insurane policy its the other way around. For myself its £700 and with 3 additional drivers its £1100 (approx). I really cant understand the insurance companies logic. Has this happend to you, or is it just me. I find that it is strange…..

Grab a statistics book and read up on the principal of large numbers. All rates are based on this model.
