Different methods of getting insurance quotes?

July 16, 2010 - 8:02 pm 4 Comments

I intend to go use the current policies for my car and home when getting insurance quotes. Some people say if you do it on your own online, you can make mistakes and make wrong coverage or higher premiums, but that happens even if you go through a broker or those Customer Service Reps at a insurance company.

What exactly are the differences in getting quotes online versus getting one from a human broker? I expect biased answers, but if you try to be fair that would be helpful in helping people saving money in these hard times. Thanks!

Has anyone had experience of online insurance quotes?

Looking for house insurance. 2 companies came up with a direct quote, 2 others took all my info, then cut me off.

Call a broker. You won’t be sorry when you have a problem and there is someone there to help you who is on your side.

which insurance company is lenient to give great term insurance quotes for mild depression and stress?

what insurance company will still give someone a great insurance quote even though he is taking cymbalta?

AIG has really good rates on term insurance at the moment. I don’t think that the cymbalta would cause you to get surcharged, but it will most likely prevent you from getting preferred rates. In most states that I know of, suicide isn’t covered for the first two years of the policy (and is covered after that) so depression isn’t a huge risk, especially if it’s being treated. Call around, maybe talk to some brokers who write for numerous companies. Just call and ask if you’d be surcharged or table rated due to your medication, they should be able to find out quickly for you, then you can focus on getting quotes.

need liability insurance for self employed to work inside private homes. Need quotes from three companies?

Starting my own business. It is personal assistant to busy people. Will be going into their homes. Preparing food, handling expensive pieces perhaps in their homes. I do not know how much insurance I need. I am assuming it should not be more than $5,000. What insurance companies are there for me to contact.

You need a Commercial General Liability. The minimum is 1,000,000 Aggregate and 1,000,000 Occurence. I don’t know any insurance company that would go less then these limits. Let me give you a scenario. You come to someone’s place. After you leave, the owenrs file a claim that you stole a vaulable piece of art. They take you to court. Even though, you are completely innocent, the defense cost will run thousands of dollars. That’s why you need so much coverage, because Liability covers not only claims but also the defense cost! Good luck

How do insurance companies come up with there premiums?

Going to make a long story short, five years ago I moved to southcarolina from Boston. I bought a home and everything was escrowed ( taxes, insurance, payment ) I just found out that i have been paying over $1,700.00 a year for insurance. I have gotten five quotes from leading insurance companies and every quote is under $500.00 for the year. This is with the exact same coverage. Is that legal? Should i look into this a little closer? Thanks for your help. Jason

It’s called buyer beware you should never assume that all parts of home loan are the best priced. Insurance especially should be shopped with other carriers on a regular basis to ensure you the best pricing. And it’s not illegal after all you signed the loan repayment agreement. Ethics on the other hand is a completely different issue but then we all know about ethics and the home loan sharks.

Car Insurance quotes – Inquries to my credit file?

July 16, 2010 - 7:56 pm 2 Comments

I am planning to buy a used car. So I began checking the insurance quotes online. I gave my personal information like Social etc. Now when I checked my credit file there are inquiries made by some insurance companies. Now my doubt is, will these effect my credit score. I am lot worried because, I have checked too many insurance quotes for the last one week. I doubt it will make my credit score fall. Please help if there is a way to rectify this.

Those should be "soft" hits (not applications for new credit) and won’t affect your credit score very much. Most insurance companies do factor in credit history when determining rates.

Do you know any Insurance companies that would do 6m Car Insurance?

July 16, 2010 - 7:56 pm 6 Comments

For various reasons, I would like insurance quotes for my car for 6 months. Has anyone had any dealings with companies that have or would? It’s not a money saving exercise, thanks :)

Try a different angle of approach here if you are not having any success. Find any insurance company that lets you pay the annual premium monthly and ask them what penalty there is, if any, if you need to cancel the insurance part way through the policy life (perhaps you MIGHT be getting a company car sometime during the year ?). Find the one with the lowest penalty [and not all impose a penalty] and take out the insurance as normal then cancel it when you no longer need it.

How to get insurance quotes in the most efficient way?

July 16, 2010 - 7:56 pm 5 Comments

So, I called and called. Got some quotes. Chose the most reasonable rate. But then the insurance companies turned around and increased premium after I had the policy, usually with B.S kind of reasons, e.g. there is a crack in a few decorative bricks..

How do I do it better next time. Or they’re there to rip you off no matter what you do?

Never heard of this happening. First I pay, then I get policy. Might even pay and get policy at same time but if they increase premium I just don’t pay and they can keep their policy.
Not sure what you did. I pay about $130 yearly for a 170.000 excess. If the house gets flattened or burned that’s what they pay. Can’t get cheaper than that I think.

Why is there a huge difference in insurance quotes if all info is the same?

July 16, 2010 - 7:51 pm 3 Comments

I’m shopping around for insurance quotes because I thought my car insurance was too high. Progressive gave me a very low quote, which I was happy about. It was what I thought I should be paying compared to friends I’ve talked with. All the other quotes from the other insurance companies were in the same price range and very high. I began to worry that Progressive had some incorrect info, so I called them back, we went over all the info again, and everything is right. They even emailed my quote to me and it’s all correct. Should I be worried that the quote is so low or is Progressive just being competetive?

Doesn’t matter. If they take your money and write you a policy (and don’t say OOPS three days later) you should be fine.
You could just be falling into a specific underwriting model that Progressive uses. Count your luck!
