Why do republicans support insurance companies who raise rates or drop coverage on Americans who become ill?

July 17, 2010 - 1:46 am 23 Comments

Republican ideology does not embrace protecting the public. This is just one example.

Edit: People who are claiming that insurance companies do not drop people who become ill are either ignorant or dishonest. There are numerous documented instances of such practices.

What car insurance companies have the lowest rates in south carolina?

July 17, 2010 - 1:46 am 2 Comments

I am currently with Geico and feel I am paying too much.

the cost of insurance is different from person to person, depending on your age, gender, type of car, location, etc, etc.

if you feel like you are paying too much, open the good old yellow book and look under car insurance. call them and get free quotes. make sure you have your Vin number and current policy with you. that will speed things up and also make sure you’re comparing similar insurance.

good luck!

Are there insurance companies that have lower rates for multiple cars and one driver?

July 17, 2010 - 1:46 am 2 Comments

I own three cars and one truck. I’m the ONLY driver of these vehicles. Since I can’t drive but one at a time, I feel I shouldn’t be paying the same amount per car as someone with one vehicle. Are there any companies that would recognize the fact that I can only drive one car at a time.

No they would not. They all have to be covered for theft at all times whether being driven or not and there is also the possibility of others driving them on their third party only other car cover.

Should the federal government have the power to set the rates of private insurance companies, regardless costs?

July 17, 2010 - 1:42 am 8 Comments

Keep in mind insurance companies’ profit margin is already less than 5%.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/09/health/policy/09rates.html

Is this why many people call Obama & Pelosi’s healthcare legislation a Single-Payer Trojan Horse? The federal government will have new powers to effectively run every insurance provider in your state into permanent bankruptcy, regardless of whether or not you’re willing to keep them?

Of course. Let me be clear, as I was in my speech in March of 2007:

"My commitment is to make sure that we have universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as president…I would hope that we set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to assess a federal system, or a state pool of some sort. But I don’t think that we are going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately, there’s gonna be potentially some transition process I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out."

how is the cost of health care going to go down when the insurance companies will raise the rates?

July 17, 2010 - 1:42 am 8 Comments

to cover all the bad risk obama is going to force them to take…i understand that people with preexisting conditions need health insurance but when you force a company to take on more cost they will raise the rates for everybody….am i right or am i missing something

Absolutely not! First of all any company be it an insurance company or a car company or oil company are in business to make money. If the cost of doing business goes up the cost of whatever their selling goes up and is passed on to the consumer when they purchase that product or service. It is really simple.

What’s more scary; Medical Insurance Companies raising rates at upwards to 39%; or anti Health Care Reformers?

July 17, 2010 - 1:42 am 8 Comments

doing a victory lap; not knowing their next on the medical industrialist’s list?

Considering that every President for the last 60+ years has wanted health care reform and recognized that what we have is not good, the anti health reform care people.

How much more can insurance rates go before people realize that we are being SCREWED.

Does California state law not allow insurance companies to increase rates for $750 or less claims?

July 17, 2010 - 1:42 am 1 Comment

I heard California Sate law prohibits insurance companies from raising your rates if you have a total accident claim of $750 (not to include deductible amount)? Is this true?

Now there is an industry for you! I never understood why they call it insurance instead of just give me your money! The prices for premiums should be sufficient for profit even considering claims, otherwise they would not be in business. Raising your rates for what ever reason is just a bonus! WTH just another rape job!
