How much for motorcycle insurance?

July 16, 2010 - 8:06 pm 4 Comments

I’m 35 and about to take riding lessions, I have a CLEAN driving record. What is a good insurance company and how much to insure a first time motorcyclist? Its going to be a crochrocket 800cc or higher. I live in Michigan. Also which brand should I consider?

It differs due to LOTS of variables you have not mentioned. The specific bike, your credit history, the levels of coverage you are looking for, and the laws in your state among other things all impact this. The best thing to do is to shop around. Check with Progressive, Dairyland, Bikeline, GMAC, AIG… I am probably missing a few. I would stay away from State Farm, due to their business pracitces & reputation for paying on claims.

Where do insurance companies sell totaled motorcycles?

July 16, 2010 - 8:06 pm 8 Comments

Do these companies sell these vehicles at auction? Sealed bids? Where can I get information on how to purchased totaled bikes?
For an answer to be valid, I need the name of a company, contact information, not just they sell them or they smash them… looking for a place to buy them.

I think they get smashed into little cubes and shipped off to China…

What would be your ballpark guesstimate of my motorcycle insurance?

July 16, 2010 - 8:06 pm 4 Comments

21 yr old female
Valid Drivers License
2005 Honda
Using the bike to and from work and for pleasure

Thanks for your help. I get put off when the insurance company I am not even with asks me for my SSN (just for a quote).

They have to have your SSN to pull your driving/riding record – otherwise their quote is meaningless.

If you have a loan against the bike, you will have to pay for full coverage insurance – probably around $130-160 bucks a month, depending on how much you financed.

If you own the bike, you only have to have liability – which is really cheap on a bike, $40-50 a month depending on your record.

If you haven’t had any accidents, and only a few tickets (or none), then you might be able to get out of it cheaper.

motorcycle insurance …will your rates drop or rise if you change to a larger cc motorcycle?

July 16, 2010 - 8:04 pm 2 Comments

lets say that you have a 250cc motorcycle for few years and the 250cc bike has a low rate on insurance ….later when you switch to a 600cc with the same insurance company ….will your rate be a little higher or your rate starts all over again like new motorcycles?

it will go up they go off type of bike then size since a 600 is alot faster than a 250 your rates go up since at the faster speed you are more likely to wreck and hurt someone or something

i got a traffic ticket on my motorcycle. will my car insurance go up?

July 16, 2010 - 8:04 pm 2 Comments

i live in North Carolina.
my motorcycle insurance is with Geico.
my car insurance is with Nationwide.
the ticket was for "passing on the right".
assuming i am found guilty in court and receive a point on my license, will it just be my motorcycle insurance that goes up?
or will it be my car insurance?

i was told that there is now a law in NC that prevents insurance companies from double penalizing motorists for a ticket, meaning that one insurance company cant penalize you for higher car insurance if your motorcycle insurance company already has, and vice versa.

could someone explain this to me? what’s going to happen to me?
check my stats, i always select the best answer.

defend yourself in court and you will be gravy baby.

Whats the Cheapest Motorcycle insurance company you’ve personally used.?

July 16, 2010 - 8:04 pm 9 Comments

So I know this question is going to probably get lots of spam answers from robots and insurance salesmen, but I can tell the difference, so hopefully I get some answers from real people.

What is the cheapest company for motorcycle insurance you’ve ever used? I have one bike (GSXR750), and I plan to buy a second bike, however the insurance company wants to charge me just as much for the second bike as the first. Its pretty rediculous to pay the full cost of both bikes, when you can only ride one at a time. You should be able to just buy one set of liability and collision insurance and use it on both, since your only going to be riding one at a time, you can’t possibly be "liable" for both, or have a "collision" with both at once. So why do you have to pay for both at once?

Anyways, so far the cheapest I’ve personally found is State farm, which is sort of odd because they are definetly not the cheapest when it comes to my car/home insurance. My car/home insurance is much more expensive than state farm on motorcycles. I called geicko for their powersports insurance, and for identical coverage, they want to charge 5X as much, seriously, 5X. State farm is around $200 a year for me, Geico wanted about $950 for the identical package.

Is there any company you’ve used that’s cheaper, or that could allow you to group bikes under one umbrella?

autoinsurance.maclenet.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

will my car insurance go up if i was speeding on my motorcycle?

July 16, 2010 - 8:04 pm 10 Comments

i have two different insurance companies, one for my motorcycle and another for my truck. I got a ticket for speeding with my motorcycle, will this effect my truck insurance as well?

Not very likely (but does apply to different states) if you get points your insurance rate will go up. If you have two policies for each, and if it does go up, it will only affect the policy by which the bike is on. Hopes that help!

When insurance companies ask if you will be using a motorcycle for commute or pleasure, which is cheaper?

Pleasure. Generally pleasure vehicles spend less time on the road, and commute vehicles spend more time in heavy traffic.

Trying to Find Motorcycle Rental Insurance?

July 16, 2010 - 8:02 pm 4 Comments

I’m opening a motorcycle rental business. I need someone to insure my motorcycles when they are rented out. I’m in MD. This is a relatively new industry. The only insurance companies I can find, require you to join an association and that association requires one to use their $15,000 liscensing software. I’m not even sure if this is legal, but in the mean time, I need insurance!

State Farm and Allstate do not write in MD. Call an independent agent in your phone book and see if they can help you.
