Why would ppl go for Private Insurance when the Public companies will be giving better coverage for cheaper?

July 18, 2010 - 2:43 am 4 Comments

I don’t understand how people are saying that only 39 million will go for public insurance when public insurance companies will be competing for the best insurance with the most security and stability at the lowest price. It does not make sense. I would also like to know how Obama plans to do all of the things he claimed he would do in his speech the other night.

people will still have specific needs and will continue to buy their insurance from whomever they prefer if they can afford it. The government option is aimed to the lower end of the market and those so poor that their visits to the doctor are limited the the emergency room.

The changes that are proposed for private insurance will promote the stability of the coverage available (making it illegal to drop a client for preexisting conditions). Hopefully it’ll keep them a little more honest. As it is now,, the insurance industry is virtually unpoliced and has NO competition.

as private insurance companies cannot compete with a gov run plan?

July 18, 2010 - 2:43 am 5 Comments

how many jobs will be lost by the insurance companies and over how long? the perfect example is chrysler offering 4500 dollar rebate on top of the gov rebate,4500 cash for clunkers rebate. ford cannot offer that program, it is unfair to ford because the gov/chrysler has the backing of the govs money. am i wrong and what about the collapse of the insurance industry. will it happen if the obamascare program goes through? thanks

Who said they can’t? Of course they can. They will have to adapt their products, pricing and services to the new market place. Also comparing it to the auto industry is an apples and oranges comparison.

can private insurance companies drop costomers if the customer gets sick?

July 17, 2010 - 10:42 pm 3 Comments

if i had insurance with a company for a like a year and than got an illness that is long lasting and is also expensive to keep me alive can they just drop me?

Yes. They can and do drop people. What happens is that someone will have insurance, get very sick (like with cancer) and need LOTS of medical care. The insurance policy has a ‘lifetime’ amount they are willing to spend on the patient. Once they hit that mark (like $100,000-$250,000) the insurance company won’t pay any more and drops the person. It’s impossible for someone in the midst of a serious illness to get new insurance. It’s evil and it sucks.

In your case, you likely haven’t reached the maximum coverage amount. Read the fine print in your policy and you’ll find what it it. They are trying to change the law so that the insurance company can’t just drop yo if you get sick.

What is the income potential working for the death panels of private insurance companies?

Considering that private insurance companies promote people based on the number of claims denied, I’d say the potential is limitless.

With universal healthcare around the corner.. How do you think it will impact private insurance companies?

July 17, 2010 - 10:42 pm 2 Comments

Do you think Sicko by Michael Moore had anything to do with the push for Universal healthcare?
asimple… very good answer.. I see you too have a medical background.. but you should start paying attention to the debates going on with our presidential hopefulls. Universal healthcare has about a 80percent chance to happen.
I agree with you on some levels but dont you agree that private insurances just arent getting it done.. the government plans i.e. medicaid, medicare just arent getting it done either. whats next?

National/Universal healthcare is a wreck. It hasn’t worked anywhere else in the world (e.x. Britain, Canada, France, Norway, etc etc…) why is it going to work here? Private insurance would still be around because most will want supplemental plans. Over half of seniors on medicare still have BCBS/Aetna plans because they need it to cover a lot of what medicare will not.

Additionally I highly doubt UHC will be implemented. Healthcare has a lot of strong lobby groups like pharmaceutical, medical and nursing they do not want to see our services nationalized and given to the lowest bidder. In theory it’s a nice idea but will be a calamity if it is implimented. Do you really want a politician in Washington making your healthcare decisions for you? I’d prefer it to be up to me, thank you…

(P.S. Michael Moore is an idiot. Not everything in the world is a political issue like he thinks. Need I remind he’s a phony? Fake news headlines for Fahrenheit 9/11? Way to be objective…)

What is the point of private insurance companies when they can deny coverage even if you have coverage?

Uhh, neverfamous, are you an idiot? The whole point of the public option is so people DON’T get denied. This doesn’t happen in Canada, this doesn’t happen in the UK. They don’t have a reason to deny you because they are not in it for the money like private companies and don’t have bonus hogging CEOs.

What’s the point of government health care, when they can deny you care even though you pay for the coverage?

Can the provision of right to information be used against private insurance companies?

Neither ICICI Lombard nor their TPA "TTK Healthcare Services Pvt. Ltd." is not giving any reply about my pending claim status.

The HCFA which is the acronym for Healthcare Commission Financial Administration is the federal program that oversees the state level of the insurance commissioner’s office which is in every state. I know because I have had to write them and complain several times and the insurance company does respond. You ARE entitled to know your status and do not let the insurance affiliated people on yahoo tell you that you are not. Insurance companies fall under policies and procedures just like other companies, and they have a certain time frame to respond to a claim. For example, in NC for life insurance policy the insurance company has to respond within 30 days. I am a medical malpractice attorney and work with insurance companies every day and they will give you the run around, but most will respond when you go over their heads to the state insurance commissioner so Good Luck!.

Would private insurance companies be able to compete with a public option?

July 17, 2010 - 7:23 pm 8 Comments

ATTENTION:TTIA-Got a source?

Yes they would. It would be much the same as the Postal Service, which is a self sufficient public entity, competes with UPS and FedEx.They will compete on service.

And page 16 of the house bill proposal doesn’t outlaw private insurance plans. You are bound to get a few answers claiming that. proof: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/jul/22/ibdeditorialscom/private-health-insurance-page-16-house-bill/

What is the point of private insurance companies if taxpayers end up paying to bail them out?

July 17, 2010 - 7:23 pm 3 Comments

you get to take it at both ends now- pay the premium and then pay the government for bailing out the company. It just infuriates me. We are going to end up with at least 50% taxes just because of these bailouts.
Basically we are going to have socialist tax rates, and no socialist programs. How crappy is that!
