Why do Republicans find it essential for insurance companies to continue to make huge profits from illness?

What is really wrong with a single payer system that covers everyone and drops no one no matter how sick they become?

I think it’s unfair to say the insurance companies are profiting from illness, as they drop the coverage of the people who are actually ill. It would be more accurate to say they are profiting from wellness since people are only covered if they don’t get sick.

The profit motive lowers costs. You can read about it in a good economics book.

    Let’s see..

    Increased costs.
Worse service ( meaning many needless deaths ).
    No individual choice.
Government decides who lives and dies.

    Where’s the upside to it?

Many Republicans receive huge contributions from insurance companies to help support their interests. Its all about stupid money and greed.

who do you think OWNS them?

What percent of national income went to the top 1% in 1980? 9%
What percent of national income went to the top 1% in 2007? 21%

President Obama has been accused of advocating a "redistribution of wealth".

It would be more accurate to say that he wants to UNDO the redistribution of wealth that has already happened.

Many are share holders. Of course they want unbridled profit at the expense of the American people.

Health insurance companies are nearly a monopoly in every state. Each state garners in excess of $50 million a year in profit. The poor devils…..not.

Conservatives find it essential to ensure that government control, which is being attempted furiously in various areas excluding health care, is beaten down into remission.

Conservatives know exactly what this administration is and what the agenda is for you radical liberals. You bluntly and arrogantly are attempting to establish extreme government control.

Here is what conservatives say: We will fight fire with fire. We are organizing rapidly and efficiently…and we will take you radicals on face-to-face. Our demonstration on 9/12 is merely a light tremor of what is facing you.

Oh, by the way. Acorn is secretly bringing in illegal 13 year old prostitutes into the country. It’s been exposed by Conservatives. You won’t hear a thing about it from your state-run media. I thought i’d let you know anyway….

You are right. They make billions off pain, and to do more stupid tests that are repeated from doctor to specialist are ways they line their coffers. They are the problem not the solution. The pubs are getting so much money from them they cant see the forest for the trees.

there is nothing in the world wrong with that.

but that has nothing to do with the republican thought process.

what is good and right for america is not what republicans think of first.

i challenge anyone to show me a piece of legislation that has been advanced by republicans in the last 10 years that solely benefitted the american people and not business.

    show me just one…

The only problem is actually setting up the system that works. If you find one that works, then it should be set up and tested as an option. If it works and is actually affordable, then people would naturally go to it.

Nothing is wrong with a single payer plan. But since Bush isn’t sending us to war to steal it from someone else, the Republicans think it is no good.
