Is Mercury Insurance a good home insurance company?

They’re ok. It’s more about the POLICY, and which endorsements you have on it, than about the company. Mercury is an A+ rated carrier, so they’re financially strong.

Very small, local, maybe regional company. IF it fails you will most likely be covered under your State’s reserve pool. You’re better off buying from a much larger carrier, even if it takes a little more cash. Chances are, the reason premiums might be lower is that they have much lower limits of coverage for jewelry, guns, tools and the like. Check to make sure you are buying replacement value coverage as opposed to ACV (Actual Cash Value, or depreciated value) coverage. In Homeowner’s Insurance, you almost always get what you pay for.
