Can a homeowners insurance company cancel me when i have my first claim?
I recently had an incident with my lawnmower starting a "leaf fire" while mulching leaves, the fire spread and my lawnmower exploded from the heat combined with the gasoline. I filed a claim with my homeowners insurance and they asked for information about the replacement costs of the mower/proof of invoices. Upon them receiving the information about the cost of a new replacement lawnmower, they immediately canceled my policy . Can I sue, how do I approach this matter?
The lawnmowers replacement cost was $4000+ that’s a decent loss for me.
Also, what the f you see k is the point in paying for insurance when they don’t cover you??? There should be a law that if an insurance company insures someone they should be legally required to insure…and not drop you because they don’t want to pay.

You can call an agent of the company and ask–but if they cancelled you–I guess you can say that they can cancel–ITS THEIR COMPANY–ITS THEIR DECISION. This is a lesson for you and everyone else—save receipts for every large purchase–photograph all expensive items–write down ALL serial numbers of your expensive items—NEVER call the insurance company for silly claims–its only best for LARGE LOSSES–like a destructive structure fire. Relax–if they don’t insure you–some other company will. LESSONS IN LIFE. —-one claim and it shows that you are now a RISK. they don’t like RISKY people—they are very very tough with the rules and YOU are supposed to read the fine print of ANY CONTRACT–you will see that they CAN cancel you for ANY reason.

It matters what state you are in.
Most states, they can cancel a policy the first 90 days, for any reason at all. After the first 90 days, in some states, they can’t cancel you, and in others they can.
Can you sue? Sure. Here in the USA you can sue anyone for anything. Will you win? Most likely not. If you do win, you get . .. monetary damages. Which are? Nothing, as far as I can tell. Their cancelling the homeowners policy hasn’t given you a financial loss.
I can tell you, that there’s NO WAY I’d file a claim for under $2500 on a homeowners policy. So I hope it was a really, really, really expensive mower!!

You were silly to file a claim on your homeowner’s policy for such a trivial expense. The first answerer was correct. The insurer now views you as a customer who will file a claim whenever he can. They don’t want that type of client. No, you can’t sue because they cancelled you. That is entirely their option, and they have every right to do so.
