Homeowners insurance? Which is the best insurance company and why?

Be as specific as possible, please.
Just as you would shop around for different cars or phone plans, you can do the same for homeowners insurance. Are you sure you have the cheapest premium? Do you have enough coverage? Take some time to look into other options when it comes to your premiums and companies.

As you can tell from the guy trying to sell you a policy in India, there is no "one size fits all" answer. Some companies are best for high end houses, some for moderate houses, some for low end. Some for houses in cities, some for houses in the country. Some for new houses, some for old houses.
Not all companies write policies in all states.
There’s no short cut. You have to shop around to find out the best insurance company for your personal needs.

The best homeowners insurance company for you may not be the best for someone else. The only way to know is to get competitive quotes from several companies. Here’s a personal finance site that has more info and a link to get free multiple quotes:

~~The best homeowners insurance is through State Farm. I have heard so many horror stories from people with other insurance and I have had State Farm for nearly 30 years for homeowners, and I do not have one complaint. The claims we have made are handled quickly, efficiently, and our needs are always looked after. They have 24 hour phone service so you always have a source to help you immediately whatever the day or time. I would never, ever change even if we could save allot on our policy-it would never be worth it.~~

Chubb but they only insure high value homes. They pay claims fast and will never take you to court. It costs quite a bit but you get what you pay for. The day you have a claim you will be thankful.
