Where can I find a good template to create an inventory of the house for my insurance company?

The video tape recommendation is okay, but a digital copy placed on CD or DVD would be better. There is also software offered through most Farmers Agents called the Home Organizer.
I also have a PDF file that you could use to create a paper inventory: http://www.4sandiegoinsurance.com/Home_Inventory.pdf

Too funny. My brother in law is Frank Rizzo. Are you him??
Anyway. Your agent can find one for you, but it’s not going to be ‘good’. My recommendation is to just get a camcorder, and walk through the house. Open closets, doors, cabinets, you can do a vocal commentary the whole time. It’s much more thorough, much faster to update, and much quicker than a paper inventory – AND it’s more accurate, as you can just video tape serial numbers for high end items.
Then you make two copies of the tape – have your agent keep one copy in your file at HIS office, and keep the other one at your work – away from the premises in case of a total fire loss.
