I’m confused, now I know AIG is no wonderful company, but whats the deal with this article? This guy is complaining that he lost his computer and car keys, etc, and hasn’t been compensated, yet he’s already got $5000?

I think that covers the cost and expense of getting a new laptop and car keys.

This reminds us just how greedy some people can be. You are absolutely right, $5,000 should cover his computer and keys. I would just be happy to be alive and safe, in fact I’d be forever grateful to the crew who saved everyone’s life.

I could not agree with you more. Besides, I thought that being alive was more important, it could have been much worse.

Instead of worrrying about some money. Isn’t life more important?. A Laptop and a set of car keys can be replaced. Yes, he already received $5,000 how much more does he want. Gee Whiz.

Some people see big dollar signs whenever they are involved in any kind of accident. Yes, AIG is no saint, but he has been fairly compensated if that is all he has lost. He should be happy to be alive. Maybe he should talk to the relatives of the victims from Air France flight that crashed. They would be happy to have their loved ones back over any insurance payout.

It’s part of a culture that holds that whenever someone is injured then the nearest deep pocket outfit should pony up, regardless of whose fault it is. Lawyers, of course, do best out of the contingency fee system and actively encourage people to sue, no matter the rights and wrongs because if it goes to a jury trial then the individual will be favored over the rich organization. And very often insurers settle out of court rather than risk the expense and danger of a jury trial.

Clearly the airline wasn’t negligent – the birds stopped the engines but by great good fortune Capt. Sully proved to be a man of exceptionally good judgement and outstanding skill as a pilot.

The passengers get $5,000 and a story they can dine out on for years. Sounds like a deal.

The objective is not to recover the value of the personal property. If the airline admits liability, then all of the aches and pains from the Hudson river landing will become seven figure personal injury civil actions.
