I am looking to buy a car soon … but I am a new driver and I know my insurance will be hight … I am planning to go insurance company to insurance company to get quotes. Does that lower my credit score?
No… a carrier checking your rates will _not_ accect your score.

Absolutely, the insurance quote won’t hurt you.

Not that I believe, but who knows now a day. I know your credit score will affect what your insurance costs. Why I don’t know. Just cause you have good credit doesn’t mean you can drive and visea versa.

If you apply to several credit card companies asking for credit, then the inquiries can impact your score. If it is an insurance company only looking to see what your score is, and not planning on loaning you money, it will have no impact on your credit score.

anytime you have your credit looked at it will lower your score by a little bit. BUT, you can get insurance quotes all day long without them having to look atyour credit at all.. the easiest way is to do it online, via progressive.com, geico, allstate, etc. They care more about your drivers license, accident history, etc. Credit should not at all be needed to get insurance quotes….Good Luck!

Actually, it is possible. I don’t remember which company (but I think it was progressive) just got nailed with some major stuff over that. They were actually running credit checks on people and using their credit score in part to base what their rates were. And any time someone pulls a credit report on you it has an effect on your score. This is, in fact, an illegal practice but that didn’t stop them.
While that is unlikely to happen now that … whoever it was got bitten by it, that doesn’t mean someone else might not be doing it as well

Actually most insurance companies run your credit and it can affect your rates. It is considered a soft hit on your credit score so it won’t impact your rating.
