Is it wrong that the top priority of Health Insurance Companies is to make a Profit?

July 19, 2010 - 12:42 am 11 Comments

Should Profit be their main objective or should it be providing good health care to you and me? Don’t these priorities conflict?

If I support Obama’s plan of moving closer towards universal health care coverage why I are republicans claiming I am in favor of the Government running my life….I just want good health care coverage and not to be screwed around by my own health insurance providor.

Profit should never be involved with health care. If the goal is to make money, then your well being is secondary and you will never get the best care possible.
Its sad that any person here is at risk of losing their home and savings if they get sick. And you’re fooling yourself if you think you have good coverage and you’ll be just fine.

How does Progressive compare your insurance rates with top companies?

July 16, 2010 - 12:22 pm 2 Comments

How is that possible? I’ve applied for Progressive quotes before (and wasn’t impressed at all), but how are they able to do that?

Insurance companies all have complex formulas that are used to calculate rates using several factors, including driving history, location, credit, household drivers, vehicles, etc.

Unless they have robots online that steal competitors’ bandwidth and automatically fill out the forms, it doesn’t seem possible. If that was the case, you would think other companies would block Progressive from abusing their servers.

Any ideas?

Since the rate books become a matter of public record once they are filed in the state, they do like their competition does and gets a copy.

All they are doing is using the tables they provide to guess what your coverage might be. They may use a worst case scenario or a best case.

The formula’s are not really as complex as you might think.
